If serving sizes were not a factor, which size tiers for a cake would you prefer visually. 6, 8, 10 or 6, 9, 12 and why. I think I am leaning for the 6, 9, 12, for the extra decorating room. Thanks for any answers, just curious.

I tend to always recommend 6, 9, 12 rounds. They just look visually attractive and the top of the 6" is big enough to hold a decent amount of decoration but not so big as to look oversized.

Depends on the decorations on the cake.

6/8/10 can work well if there is no decorations on the edge of the cake. A 6/9/12 or 6/10/14 look good if there are a lot of things that need to sit on the edges.

I like 6, 10, 14 as I really like the 2" ledge around at each tier icon_smile.gif

I tend to lean towards the 3" difference in pan sizes vs 2"....I think the 2" difference is way too small.

4" is ok but if it's a plain cake it can look like a lot of blank space.

I Like 4" differences between tiers. Whenever i do 2" the entire cake somehow ends up looking like a colomn.

A reputable UK decorator and published author has stated to me that a 3" difference is visually more appealing and I follow that advice whenever I possibly can and that includes the cake board when possible.

It is all personal preference, Look thru the gallery and see what catches your eye. For me it was a 4 inch difference, even when there are not a lot of decorations.
