I need some ideas for using ducks & dots on a shower cake for a friend. I would like to make the ducks but not sure how? I've never used fondant or those candy wafers, but would like to know how to incorporate both? Thanks for any info for any ideas or recipes! Oh- on the same idea a few bubbles will also be a good addition-but how and what to use? icon_confused.gif

I've only done simple ducks before (see the farmyard cake in my gallery). If that's the sort of thing you are after, would be happy to send you the instructions I used.

Candy melts are super easy to use. All you have to do is melt them in the microwave! The best ducks Ive ever made was using a really cheap 3d duck mold. Pour the melted yellow candy melt into the mold and bang it slightly on the counter. Put it in the freezer for about five minutes and it will pop out! If you want to make it two sided then make both halves and follow the same directions. Then when they are both set I use a small frying pan and put the heat on. Stick both halves on it so the chocolate melts a little bit.(not too long or it will burn) Pick them both up and stick it together! If you have seems you can take a butter knife or the heat from your hand and melt it down. If you have areas that aren't filled in, take some melted chocolate and fill it in. Once set you can follow the same directions. But if your sticking them on a side of a cake the one sided one's work great since their flat. You can get the mold at candyland crafts online and the candy melts at Michaels and Walmart.

sounds easy! I have to do a baby shower cake too and was thinking of using some modeling chocolate and making a little baby but this sounds easier! Do you pipe on eyes on the ducky? icon_smile.gif

They actually make eyes out of royal icing that you can buy. You can stick them in the mold before you pour your candy melt in and your duck comes out perfect! Also, if you want his bill to be orange, pour that color melt in first, stick it in the freezer for a couple of minutes and then follow up with the yellow.
