I am looking for a cake recipe or idea to use when decorating a multi tiered cake with fondant. I have used cake mixes in the past and adding pudding powder to make it a little heavier. Should I continue doing this or is there a better alternative? Also, what is the best butter cream recipe to use under a white fondant? HELP!!!!

Cake mixes, even with added pudding, have too much leavening in them to withstand the weight of a lot of fondant, which is pretty heavy stuff. However, there's a doctored cake mix recipe that's excellent for stacking and carving called the White Almond Sour Cream (WASC) cake. There are several recipes for it here in the recipe section. The Wilton buttercream recipe is good for use under fondant - you can find it on their website. Hope this helps some!
