three wedding cakes, two groom's cakes and 1 big candy buffet. Oh and two party cakes.

One party cake picked up, one wedding cake plus one groom's cake delivered. This candy buffet is kicking my butt tonight. Mainly because I haven't started setting it yet. Overwrapping Hershey's kisses at the moment.

Hi everyone! No cakes this week. I took this week off to go up to Lake Tahoe for a mini vacation. Just as well, I pulled a muscle in my ribs and I'm thankful I don't have fondant to roll out this week! In fact, both of my cakes next week are buttercream. I'm a lucky caker!LOL!

Hope everyone is weathering the HOT summer this year!

Just cleaned up the kitchen...will start again in the morning. I'm working on my son's birthday cake...it's 3 Lego blocks. The red one is red velvet with red vanilla cream cheese icing, the yellow one is lemon with lemon buttercream icing, and the blue one is vanilla (tinted blue) with blue tinted vanilla buttercream icing. All of the cakes are filled and crumb coated...I'll finish decorating and stacking tomorrow morning.

I am having trouble with the nubs on top. I cut circles from the hump and put them in the freezer. My thought is that they will be easier to frost frozen.

This would be so much easier if the boy would let me use fondant. icon_rolleyes.gif

My first wedding cake and my first Mad Hatter. I had a melt-down earlier this afternoon and posted about it on here. Heavy cake, hot weather, melting buttercream...you get the idea.

I'm going to finish cutting my fondant strips to put around the base of the tier, color it gold using gold highlighter dust. This stuff is beautiful! Do some clean up and detailing and call it a night...whenever that will be!
Delivery tomorrow.

You guys with all these multiple orders on any given weekend...you make me want to run home with my tail between my legs!! icon_eek.gif

I've got my first wedding cake tomorrow. Fortunately it's my gift to my sister for her wedding, so I probably dodged some stress by it not being a paid order. I made 41 gumpaste calla lilies this week to go on it. My (personal) fridge went out this afternoon as I was icing the tiers...not good. It's been a crazy day.

I have a breakfast room next to my kitchen that is the cake holding room. I'll pull all the glassware for the candy buffet, dump in all the candies then wrap it all and put in back in the bins. Then when I get to the venue, i just pull out the glassware and set it.

I'm working on a new recipe for root beer cake. I'm going for a big root beer flavor, but it's not there yet. It is very moist and still tasty though! I'm also prepping for tomorrow, when my son will be decorating his first cake. He's 4 and came up with an idea. I couldn't be more proud - he sketched out his idea using my colored pencils and described all of the elements, even telling me which ones would be in fondant. Gotta love it when my 4-year-old uses the word fondant appropriately! I'm baking a little cake for him and I'm going to let him use my cutters, etc. tomorrow to make his own little cake. Made the fondant tonight too.

I just finished crumb coating the tiers for a 2 tier Princess cake for a 4 year old girl for tomorrow night. Just made my fondant for morning....looking at the mess I still have to clean up before turning in...glad delivery isn't until late afternoon tomorrow. Next weekend I have 3 orders, a pretty simple birthday cake, a 2 tier Little Prince shower cake with 48 mini cupcakes, and a 2 tier Tangled Rapunzel cake with 24 mini cupcakes...been getting the fondant work done for those done today too. The crown and the tower for Rapunzel...lots of detail for that cake. Been so hot and humid here too...suppose to break on Sunday for a few days, that will be nice.

Hey Ladies!! I have a bit of a situation over here! First time this has happened but I wanted to get you all's take on it.. Earlier I completed a 3 tiered chocolate square topsy turvy cake. Well I just checked on it and it has cracked! The middle tier cracked completely the chocolate cake was not dense enough well I started taking them apart and the bottom tier is cracked a little too, but possibly salvageable? So Now it is 12am, and the cake is due at 10am... I know i'm going to have to pull an all nighter but what do you think my next steps should be? I know I will have to rebake a middle tier, but the design was just a solid pink (no decorating). Should I scrap that recipe for a dense one and advise her on the difference? I have a recipe for a pound but would that ruin the bottom tier as well? The third tier is perfectly fine, the bottom effy and the middle is done! what do you think??

Gosh what a big fat drag JP...Did it crack where the dowels are? I've never done a topsy cake, my
only advice may be to redo the middle tier (UGH!!) and see if the bottom can be saved when you restack? Is this a BC cake or fondant?

I finished and delivered a fondant covered zebra print birthday cake for an 11 yr olds birthday. Does anyone know where this zebra fad started? I also finished a four tier wedding cake with sugar paste roses between the elevated tiers. It's a french vanilla cake with citrus mousseline filling, dark chocolate ganache and white chocolate fondant. It's ready for delivery and set up tomorrow. And it's been the easiest wedding cake I've ever made. And all thanks to two things: Albert Uster fondant and SPS. The fondant rolls out like a dream and the SPS makes stacking effortless. I've never been this relaxed after a wedding cake and I never would have tackled a second fondant birthday cake before. Easy weekend.

Tell me about it!! I am baking the middle tier as we speak, I'm going to have to weight it, and then cover it probably around 7ish, giving me about an hour and a half to put humpty dumpty back together again! My only hope is that the bottom tier holds! One corner of the bottom tier acts as if it wants to come apart but I'm going to try and glue it alittle with some buttercream... It is fondant, I've had satin ice crack on me before like this during a delivery... I hate working with satin ice sometimes!! I'm sure the dowels are what did it in, the cake was not as dense as it should have been and the dowels where loose in the cake when I pulled them out! icon_sad.gif I was so looking forward to going to bed but it is going to be nothing but trouble here!!

Making my son and daughter-in-law's 1st Anniversary Cake. Instead of people saving their top tier, I make a FRESH cake. Fortunately, they don't care about the fondant daisies or the cake covered in fondant, they just want the deep, dark chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream.

Trying to plan out wedding cake for the 20th since next Friday my 17 year-old has the first stage surgery for reversal of his ileostomy. As soon as he gets released, the wedding cake will be due. Fortunately, I have help and will get done what I can next week. Just hoping I can match Alfred Angelo's Marine Blue color adequately in fondant!
