Buy Green Fondant Or Tint It From White? Trying To Get Lime
Decorating By usmdesigner Updated 3 Aug 2011 , 4:19pm by KSMill
Has anyone bought the green satin ice? I'm wondering how close to lime green it is.
A. Can the green be lightened?
B. Should I just get white and tint it green.
Thanks!
I won't buy Satin Ice anymore since I've had so many problems with it.
Depending on how much you need, Americolor makes a mint green that you could use to color the white fondant.

Not sure what shade of green your after but I used americolor electric green to tint white fondant to do the off roader cake in my pics.
I've used green Satin Ice, and I've also used it to get sort of a lime green. If you want to see what they look like, I have them both in my gallery.
The straight green was used to cover the board on my dark brown and white striped 2-tier with the daisies. (I'm pretty sure I added a little white to it. Can't remember!)
I mixed white and green Satin Ice, then added some Wilton golden yellow to get a limey green on my 3-tier blue, yellow, and orange cake. I'm sure adding more white and using lemon yellow instead of golden yellow would make a truer lime.
HTH!
I used satin ice green on my pink cowgirl/horses cake in my gallery. I didn't mix in any white.
I have mixed a little green Satin Ice into a bigger ball of Satin Ice yellow and got a nice lime green. You just have to start with yellow and add a very small amount of green at a time till you get the shade you need.

Thanks Sugar. Yes, that is a little to green.
I will be sure to try mixing the white fondant with tints. Thanks all.

Yes, this is what shade I will be more or less going for. Thanks!

I second that. Americolor's electric green makes a great lime green. I used it for some leaves I made for lady bug cupcakes.
I use Crystal Colors Lime Green to tint my own MMF. Here's a sample of the green I get.
