Hi,

I'm making a hockey cake, and I am matching the stripes on one of the tiers to the colors from the team's jersey.

The colors are purple and silver. I have tinted some fondant a gray color, but since the stripes will be cut and placed on the cake right away, how should I paint on the silver dust (I will mix it with vodka to achieve a paint consistency)? I'm afraid that I will stain the white fondant underneath.

Any tips/tricks to this?

Thanks!

very carefully icon_smile.gif
you could place a piece of paper next to the strip of fondant to catch any misses that may happen?
and maybe have a repair kit ready. for cleaning a chocolate stain Planet Cake suggests using a soft paintbrush with a small amount of soapy water and washing the stain lightly, rinsing the brush and washing the soap away with clean water, drying with a tissue then lightly dust the area with cornflour using a soft brush.
good luck!

Just have some Q tips and vodka handy. Wipe off any stray marks with the vodka.

I love sparkles and metallic. For silver, I buy the metallic silver used for air brushing and paint it on - either before putting the decorations on the cake, or after. It has a little viscosity and is easy to control. I'd do what you're doing.... gray tinted fondant, and then paint the stripes after placing on the cake.
