Here it is! It's just the first step, but I'm stoked. Once we get enough signatures to show the true interest in a cottage food law, we can start bugging lawmakers. Please and thank you for signing!

I wouldn't wait...if you can make a case to your lawmakers for how a CFL would create jobs and pay for itself with licensing fees you may get some interest in writing a bill right now, especially when so many other states have recently passed similar legislation. TBH online petitions don't mean nearly as much as people individually contacting their representatives.
I'm working on drafting a letter we can send to our individual representatives, to be followed up with phone calls. I realize the petition is more of a symbolic gesture than anything else. Hopefully, it will help to galvanize bakers in Georgia and get us all on the same page. Don't worry, we'll be moving on this quick!
I signed and sent it to everyone I know! Don't have to be a GA baker to sign, can be family, customers, clients, etc.
Good luck, guys! I'm in Texas and ours finally passed so I know how excited and anxious you guys feel.
Thanks, ConnieJ! We are definitely excited! We all want this, but we need EVERY Georgia Baker/Food Maker, etc. to join us in this cause. It will benefit not only Cakers in GA but ALL those people who want to sell non-perishable goods out of their home. It could be anyone from BBQ sauce makers to apple butter churners Get the word out to every one that you THINK might be interested in producing homemade non-perishable food out of their home kitchen!
We're up to 107 signatures on the petition and 70 people in the Facebook group. People have been mailing their reps, hoping to hear about some in-person meetings soon. This ball is ROLLING!

I've signed the petition and tried to attach a sample letter from the site below

Time to contact our representatives!
Sara_Bee, can you tell me how you begin to do this? I would like to get Idaho a cottage food law. How do I begin the process? BTW, this is so awesome! Way to take the innitiative!
So I may have a meeting next week with the Chairman of Agriculture, and I definitely have a legislator interested in sponsoring the bill. I would LOVE to be able to bring them a signed petition with a LOT of names on it. Right now we're at about 165. Can we make it 200? 300? You don't have to be in Georgia to sign, though that does help.

MBCOMER--look at homebasedbaking.com. Lots of great info there on starting a movement. Good luck!
I signed the petition! I really hope that we can get them to pass this! It would mean a great deal to be able to help support my family! And make people smile of course
I just talked with someone from GA Dept. of AG. She said that GA does allow home based bakeries, but with very stringent guidelines. She said one requirement is that the floors have a drainage system. She is supposed to send me the guidelines via email. Unfortunately, we are renting so I cannot put a floor drainage in the house. But those who own your homes may be able to start the ball rolling. I'll post more when I receive the email.
Ok, after reading this it sounds like you have to have a separate kitchen (excitement gone ). Here's an excerpt:
A private home, a room used as living or sleeping quarters, or an area directly opening into a room used as living or sleeping quarters may not be used for conducting food establishment .
Not sure why she told me home based bakeries were allowed.
Debbie, there are many more regulations than that at the moment. I can email you my copy as well. We've been working with the Ag. Dept. to loosen those regulations. Find us on Facebook to stay updated on our progress. Thanks!
