I'd came across this youtube video of this Mat. Have anyone heard of it or bought one/try it out? I hope you guys can view this.

It's a mat that you can rolled your fondant in without much trouble.

There's been a few lengthy discussions about The Mat here now, most of which I read prior to getting mine. Along with rave reviews, there were also some trouble shooting concerns about it too, so it was nice to have so much info on it. If you do a search, I'm sure lots will come up still.

I did purchase mine a few weeks ago, and I've used it a couple of times since. I learned a lot of tips from the previous posts that really helped me find great success with it I think. Tips like being REALLY light in covering it in shortening the first time you use it, and how to roll one side seperately by itself first, then the other around it after, and trimming off a few inches on each side if you don't need the full 30 inches. I've really enjoyed it so far as there's no rush trying to roll out the fondant, less mess to clean up, no need to powder your counter tops, etc.

In short, I definitely recommend it -and- I recommend reading the forums and watching all of Sweetwise's videos on it to ensure that you get the best results right away.

Really, when you ordered yours how soon did it arrived? This sounds like something I have to get and can't by pass it, I was skeptical about it because I didn't see alot of reviews on it. I wanted to see if anyone has purchase it and loved it.. but after your comment, I may order myself one. It seems alot easier and less stress of pickin up the fondant and especially the cleaning afterwards.

Both times I ordered them it came within 2-3 days. I brought 1 the first time & then brought 2 the next time. I love it. & It cut down on my decorating time & I used to hate doing fondant cakes...but since I got the mat I love it & I can definitely tell the difference in my cakes (improvement is always good) You won't regret the purchase at all

I agree with everything the pp said! I love it and just ordered a second one (got my first one last year and really put it thru the ringer) I would definitely recommend watching all the videos and would say it can take a few uses to get used to it but boy will you love it after that! No rush or drying out concerns, can easily roll the fondant much thinner(once it is seasoned well) and makes transferring the fondant in to the cake so much easier.

I will say I had some difficulty the first few times I tried to use it

And

It can suffer from wear and tear after a while but is the most "well worth it" product I have!

cool beans, i would have to purchase it now so that way I can get it within the next few days, my daughter's 8th birthday is next friday aug 5th, so I can put this mat to test. I'm sure I'll love it as much as you guys are. Can't wait to get it in the mail. It would have been easier on me since last week I made a fondant cake for my friend's 32nd birthday and after standing for 3-4 hrs of decorating and rolling my back was about to break. lol

I hadn't thought about cutting down the mat to the size i need...GREAT TIP! I would love a couple inches off of it.

You're looking at a different mat. You need to scroll down the web page until you find the MAT + FONDX selling for $23.99 and the MAT for $16.99.

So here's my question about The Mat -- they tell you to season it with shortening and that it just needs to be wiped clean after use (only occasionally washed with warm soapy water). If that first application of shortening isn't actually washed off, doesn't it get sticky and nasty (as will happen with stuff that shortening is left on)?

So does this work as well with MMF as it does other fondant? It really looks handy!

I used mine with MMF the first time. It gave me a little trouble. I have used it with Satin Ice after that and it has worked well. icon_smile.gif (I never used it with MMF again)

the mat works with ANY fondant...you just have to make sure that it's kneaded properly before you start rolling it out. I'm sure it's a matter of adding shortening to the MMF to get it to roll nicely.

I saw a post about this a few weeks ago, and have since completely forgotten about it! I'm wondering if I can buy it in the UK, it definitely looks worth a try!

I want that mat! I have the blue Ateco which I like, but if the fondant really rolls as well on that mat as in the video, sign me up!

I have the blue ateco one and the Mat. I use them both. I use the blue one to make the MMF, then roll it up out of the way and use the Mat to roll out my fondant. I really like them both. The only thing I would do differently is to somehow mark the mat so I know which side is up and which is down. I have a hard time figuring out which sides have been seasoned. So when I'm doing more than one tier, I have to hold it up to the light and rub to try to figure out which side to put against the fondant. Other than that, it works great.

I've used my MAT with MMF when I did my male torso cake and it worked perfectly the very first time. I absolutely love my MAT and sing its praises every chance I get. Get the MAT, best fondant application system money can buy.

You all made me get one! I can't wait to get it now! I just made a cake for a friend and rolling out a lot of fondant has to be the part that stresses me the most. I always wish i had one of those machines that you pass the fondant through and it presses it. While rolling out the fondant and getting stressed if it is going to be enough to cover, or if i place it right, or if it is going to crack or wrinkle or... best one... if it is going to stick to the counter!

Now for a good rolling pin...

I emailed the company about it getting sticky and gross from the shortening and this is what they had to say

Hi Hope,

Thanks for your interest in THE MAT.

Weve never noticed nor have we received any complaints about THE MAT becoming sticky and nasty and we have sold thousands and have been working w/ THE MAT ourselves for years. Since you are wiping THE MAT clean between uses with a clean towel, you are really wiping the shortening away. It is somewhat similar to seasoning a wok or iron skillet.

Kind Regards,

-John

So now I totally have to have one, hopefully it works just as well as they say.

Thanks for checking on that, Hope! I'd really love to try this thing, but I still have my doubts. John's response doesn't give me any more confidence than I had before. The only way to truly clean shortening is with hot soapy water. You can never get it completely wiped up with just a clean cloth. And then you'd be adding whatever from your fondant and just wiping? No thanks. Doesn't sound clean enough to me. If I were to get one, I'd wash it with hot soapy water every time, then probably have to add a coating of shortening every time.
