I only have one three tier wedding cake this week. I managed to do everything else but the cake today, so here I am decorating . . .

DH's birthday tomorrow and I won't bake his cake until tomorrow morning. Nothing like planning ahead.

Two dozen cupcakes and a 1/2 sheet cake for tomorrow. The gumpaste toppers and other decorations are already made so all I have to do is assemble.

I've got two that go early tomorrow - a tier cake for 75 year old twins, and a farm cake for twin boys, turning two. It's been a crazy week, so I am not where I'd like to be - progress wise. Both are fairly simple (famous last words) - still, I really like a good head start.

No cake for me! We have worked hard on our building the past two days. In this heat, I am exhausted by sunset. I do have a tasting in two weeks with the possibility of a paid for cake in December-whoo hooo! Everybody stay cool.

Three dozen strawberry cupcakes with strawberry mousseline frosting. One lemon cake, torted and frosted in lemon buttercream. For some reason the cake looks huge. The customer was delighted ....I think she can feed an army on this cake. I had a last minute call for 2 large cheesecakes last night for pickup today. I covered one in ganache and the other in fresh raspberry sauce. I was kinda please with myself on such a quick turnaround. The rest of the week was spent putting up peach preserves and freezing peach slices and puree for the rest of the year. Best of all I put up 36 jars of bourbon poached peaches. My son puts them in cocktails at his bar back in California.

Do any of you have food trucks in your cities?

Evening everyone,

It's a cake-free night for me and it looks to be quiet for the next few weeks. I might have something for my SiL and for a friend's little girl but both are iffy. The problem is I keep finding ideas I want to play with and I don't have a reason to bake/decorate. grrrrrrr Hubby's co-workers may get cake.

Latest cake was picked up Monday--it was a welcome back for the Navy hubby of one my former students. He just came home from a 5 month deployment with the Sea Bees. Here's a peek if you are curious:

Leah--Trendy food trucks are a big deal in LA but I'm inland in the outer reaches of commuter land where it isn't that big a deal yet.

So I'm not the only one up baking? I waited to bake until the sun went down...even with AC I didn't want to heat up my kitchen! The cake is a breeze...for my son in law's best friends little boys birthday...just a Pokemon edible image on a 9 x 13..but a double layer!! Doing it just for cost since
I know they don't have a lot of money. Feels good to be just be doing a butter cream cake!! No more fighting with fondant till the 13th of August, have 3 2-tiers and cupcakes for that weekend. Gosh I hope the heat breaks...I'm in MN and its been in the 90's to over 100 for weeks now...ugh! Been fighting with fondant! As soon as my cake is cooled, another half hour tops! Woo hoo! Then I can go to bed.

How long has this Friday night thing been going on? What a great idea!

Hello All those up and working,
I have one cake for a friends granddaughter due tomorrow, she wanted a 3d Rapunzel cake (they supplied the Rapuzel doll) I just did the Wonder-mold pan and added extra layers, I wanted to do it all in buttercream, but I'm not sure how the bodice of the doll will look, I want it to look classy not the piped star look, I was thinking about trying modeling chocolate, but I haven't really worked with it enough yet. I keep looking at the crumb coated cake and put it off, I'll probably be up all night because I just don't know what to do...

Leah_s- as for Food trucks we have two in our town, one is just your average "Roach coach" burgers, fries and grilled cheese etc... the other is a new "Green" Cart, everything is eco friendly they only serve specialty hot-dogs, solar powered and all, its a pretty cool deal!!

Also, we have alot of food trucks in the Twin Cities during the lunch hour. All gourmet and under ten dollars for most meals! They line up on the streets by the river in St Paul...my full time job is downtown St Paul...in fact the news just did a story on the Food Trucks a few nights ago...the new thing...long gone are just hot dogs! lol

I@JSK We've been convening the FNCC for about 3 years now, I think. Since so many of us are up working on Friday nights it's nice to have others to "talk" to. We solve problems too!

We're just starting to get food trucks here. Very trendy and cool!

We have 1 food truck in town that I know of. They sell Hawaiian food. However, the city where my husband works have them all over the place!
You have your basic hot dog trucks to the gourmet lunch trucks.

Cupcakes done. I think I'll wait until tomorrow to put the sheet cake together. I'm just too tired to stand up in the kitchen any longer.

Does anyone have the Gel Pro mats in their kitchen? My feet and legs get tired so quickly lately. I think I might need to head down to BB&B with my coupon and by me one!

Hi Leah...I just joined a few months ago. My daughter stumbled across this site and its awesome! My daughter is just learning how to decorate and I've let her sign us up on here, so some of the cakes on here are hers and some are mine. I'm finding she is good at sculpting fondant and is very creative, so
she should come along well...she likes the fondant work. I still have to hone her piping skills though. lol She's afraid of the bag because she says I make it look easy and she knows its a knack you learn.

Good to know there are friendly ears out there all over the world to chat with when a person needs a break and understands how much work cakes are, even if we love doing it! I think I'll putter around a few more minutes and call it a night! Happy to be here!

Hello All.

I'm not working on anything at the moment but should be. I have a dairy free cake due Sunday for a 5th birthday party. Did a dairy free cake 2 yrs. ago but didn't document. Trying to remember how I did the cake. I have the recipe for the frosting which turned out very good.

Leah, we have many food trucks in my area. They serve anything from lobster rolls to cupcakes. They are very popular.

Yay! Second week in a row for me to be part of the club. I'm doing a 2-tier square zebra print cake with a big pink bow for tomorrow. At least I hope it will have a bow...I got the request Wednesday and didn't do the bow loops until last night. I didn't have gumpaste so I just added tylose powder and they are still soft. Hopefully, I'll be able to assemble the bow tomorrow. Just iced and smoothed the bottom tier - waiting for the crust to set in so I can Viva it.

I also have a single tier Thomas the Tank Engine for Sunday. Cakes are baked, BC is made. It's going to have a lot of fondant decorations, though, so tomorrow night looks to be a long one, too!

Well, on to Viva!

Hello all! First time posting on the FNC. No baking for me tonight. I've just been surfing this site and the net on tutes for zebra print cakes. I have to make one for my nieces birthday on the 20th. I've never done zebra but I've now seen so much info I'm pretty sure it will be alright (famous last words icon_smile.gif) What I have to research now is how to get a hot pink color, and if not I'll make it white with zebra and I wanted feathers for the topper but I still have to find a store that carries them.

Tomorrow I'm hoping to make a new strawberry cake recipe to see how it turns out. Oops, it's already tomorrow icon_lol.gif

Happy caking all!

it is a 3 tiered lavender covered cake with multiple colors of purple blossoms cascading down; and some butterflies. I sure hope the groom is ok with all this purple! icon_rolleyes.gif

I have actually been thinking about doing something like this...couldn't be a bad idea if it works for others!

Lili5758, what a coincidence...I have a strawberry cake with zebra print on fondant in neon green, hot pink and black due for next Friday...an 11 yr birthday! (where did the zebra thing come from? was there a Disney connection?) The hot pink has been the hardest thing to do. I can get to hot pink with pink food coloring but you won't believe how fast it fades....like in a matter of hours. The gumpaste bows are hot pink and I moved them out of sunlight but they still faded. I read that Wilton pink fades but I found that Americolor pink does too. I finally ended up dusting it with a hot pink dust. The electric green (colored with neon green Americolor) doesn't seem to have a fading problem so I think my fondant will be alright. How does eveyone else get a hot pink (I think of it as bubblegum pink) in gumpaste not fade?

And Leah, we have plenty of trucks out here but no food on them (unless you count watermelons or tomatoes or live pigs)....food trucks are what I miss most about California...there's a taco truck in Berkeley that just the thought of makes my mouth water.

Wow! I didn't know that about the fading! I'm going to start this week experimenting with different pinks even a bit of red maybe? on pieces of fondant to see what I get. I just hope I can get a nice hot pink and that it'll last at least a cou0ple of hours! Oh boy!! icon_cry.gif
