I know where all the good CCer's went! They went far away from this place. I NOW see why so many DO NOT give up their secrets on how they did a cake. I made a Rose cake tutorial, submitted it to CC, so that others could make their own rose cake since I had so many PM's, and luckily got picked (http://cakecentral.com/articles/819/how-to-make-a-rose-cake) only to stumble across some ugly comments on a fellow CCers picture featuring her rose cake. "Thank you" to her who mentioned she followed the tutorial but the comments after that were, well, WOW, to say the least.

If I could I would rip that tutorial off the website, but you live and learn and this is why I will NEVER offer another tutorial or give advice on how to do something! Those few rotten apples sure know how to ruin it for other people.

A big UGH to those people who make this place foul!!!!!

That's why a lot of folks no longer post photos. I'm no pro but I've had people asks for instructions and other info and never gotten as much as a thank you. I don't need to waste my time.

I have not read any of those negative comments but, I would say I do appreciate any toturials, advice and suggestions I receive here on CC. I hope you all reconsider and keep the ideas coming for those of us who look forward to them, and learn from them as well. I guess we somtimes forget our manners and forget to say THANK YOU. So let me say it for us all ......Thank you, we appreciate all that you do to make ths site a sharing and learning experience.

I really enjoy all the tutorials, and recipes, but it does seem like lately that more people are rude, and very nasty on some of these forums, alot of people come here for advise, and help, so I hate to see it turn into nasty battle among cakers. Wishing people would not be so rude and ugly, because there are so many of us who enjoy the tutorials, and instructions. Thanks again, love your rose cake.

Thanks every one. When I first started coming here for advice it was such a nice place. There were so many decorator's, and baker's who gave so much advice and suggestions. But not anymore. So many that I used to chat with on a regular basis...GONE!

I've never commented badly on some ones work. Not even if they asked how the cake looked. Nope, not me! I would never want my words on their hard work discourage them from trying.

@ kakeladi-I even thought about suggesting to this person to take down the ugly comments but its pretty obvious she knows there there but left them up, or at least could ask these people to refrain from saying ugly things. When that has happened to me when I followed another tutorial I simply deleted the picture and reloaded it!

Taking my pictures down as we speak. To bad once you hit more than 4 favorites you have to have permission to delete your photo.

It must be like that with a lot of different websites. I know the scrapbooking webites have an abundance of rudeness too. I have learned how to ignore those that have nothing to offer but criticism. Don't need to waste an ounce of my time on them. It sounds like a lot more people appreciated your tutorial than didn't. Looked great to me!

Might I suggest messaging the one who commented rudely directly? This is sort of talking about someone behind their back. If you have a problem with this person you should let them know. They probably have no idea it was hurtful to someone else... I know I would like to know if I said something to hurt someone, because it is never my intention.

I definately appreciate tutorials as well as any help that the nice people on this site provides. I am a hobbyist but love to learn and see different ways of doing things. As my mother (86 years old) always says - "If you can't say something nice just don't say anything". I try to live by that as well as "do unto others as you would have them do unto you". icon_smile.gif

I thought about that. I really did. I decided not to message them directly put simply post this thread link to their in basket. Problem solved now I'm not talking about anyone behind their backs. Not that some one like them deserves to know if anyone is talking about them.

See, I'm like you! Some times I say something that was never intended to be rude or ugly, until some one else feels I was. However, saying some one's hard work is "tacky" well you cant get around the rudness from that.

How about this comment: "so THAT'S what it's supposed to look like!" Guess my rose didnt look like a rose. icon_confused.gif

I've learned not to share anything here anymore. Now I understand why so many make a video or have people pay to learn something. Thought I was doing something nice, guess the joke was on me. Although I think I'm the only one who actually paid a price here!

I'm very sorry you feel that way. I hope in time you'll feel differently about this site. I have also haad a few burns in the past here but have realized first of all, these are real people who make real mistakes just like me. And secondly, I have said things that were not nice that I might not have said to someones face. But it was never to intentionally hurt someone. I found the comments you are talking about. I don't think they ever meant to hurt you.
Like I said, these are real people. Some people are nice and never say anything negative and some are just honest enough to say what they think without realizing what they say has an effect on others.
It's hard to think rationally when our egos are hurt a little.=/ Your cakes in your gallery are beautiful, by the way.

How could she not know that saying someone's cake is tacky as being rude? I think she new exactly what she was saying. If she didn't realize it then I think her Mom didn't raise her to be kind to others.
Maybe she is jealouse that she did not come up with the great idea herself!
I think it is very unique and different. I definitely will be trying it myself.

I really think everyone must step back and not let these people win. I too get so disheartened by some of the comments, there will always be people on the internet who just like to cause trouble. Its that way everywhere. They like to sound superior, but really they are insecure, that they have to hurt others feeling. CC needs to get back to the way it use to be, we all aren't professionals, its not about business to us, its a hobby and we just love the craft. Don't get me wrong I especially love the comments from professionals, they know so much and I love to see their beautiful cakes, the Jennifer Dontz's who is so kind and helpful, that doesn't have a mean bone in their body. I love youtube, watching the videos, but people have to make such rude and obnoxious comments, that makes people disable the comments. I like listening to Adele too on youtube, such a beautiful voice, but what do you read in the comments, someone has to say she is fat, wth, why do people do this. So please don't let this get you down, its so hard I know, especially when you can't understand it, you know you wouldn't do such a thing, but the rest of us love that you took the time to teach us something, thanks!!!!

Really to me you share or you don't. Once that information is out there, it's hard to control what any one does or says about it.

I for one am very thankful to those that have shared along the way, because I have learned loads from others. Don't we all? With out sharing you wouldn't have websites like things or organizations like ICES.

Of course, there will always be some rude or inconsiderate people out there. You can't change that. Some people are genuinely just negative and unhappy people. Don't let them get to you, because in the long run, it will honestly effect you more than it effects anyone else.

I'm sorry you got hurt after taking so much time to share your cool technique. I know your photos and cakes inspired a lot to try out their own versions of your rose cake. I remember being captivated by the photo and immediately wondering "how in the world did she???", so it was great to see the tutorial.
Why do people write things that they would never say in person? Who knows - it's the anonymity of the internet. I love Texas Sugar's post; don't let haters get you down.

I'm so sorry - I wanted to give you credit for the inspiration because I never would have been able to make that cake without your instructions. I was thrilled with the result and all my in-laws were gushing about it - thanks to you! Then when I saw some of the comments, I felt bad and wasn't quite sure what I should do with them. I realize how time-consuming it must be to make a tutorial and as somebody who wants to keep learning and trying new things, I'm so very thankful for them. They help me develop as a cake decorator.

I really apologize for the frustration you're feeling. Please don't give up on the tutorials, though, or CC. There are some bad apples but I think most people here are OK.

Thanks again - and I'm planning on using your inspiration again for a lime green rose in August! icon_smile.gif I can't wait! So thanks again in advance icon_smile.gif

Tried an proven! There are those that say things that have no intentions of hurting other's, but do.

Every one is right here. I now understand and have a deeper understanding for those that helped, tried to help and then left. I now understand why some of the great ones only have 2-3 pictures up. icon_rolleyes.gif This wont happen to me again.

Sorry you had to read those negative comments. Unfortunately, this is what happens when you try to help some people. Honestly....I was taught if I wouldn't say it in public or to someone's face, don't say it or post it on the internet. I wish more people would live by that rule.

I realize that you are upset, and I would be too - absolutely. But do you know how many members CC has? I agree that CC has become less warm and fuzzy and a good number of people have just become lurkers. But I feel a little hurt that a few bad apples seem to be having a stronger voice with you than all the good apples that quietly appreciate your work, or have openly stood up and appreciated you in this forum and in the comments of your tutorial. I'm not saying I don't understand, I do, because my reaction would probably be the same. It's just very sad. A lot of people saw the tutorial and may not have commented positively simply because like me, they loved the idea but think they don't have the skills for it or haven't had the opportunity to try it yet. They might only post something to acknowledge or thank you once they've done it. A lot of other people posted their thanks and I think their voice should count too. If it does, I hope after your hurt subsides you change your mind and contribute again. Normal, good CCers shouldn't be punished (or their thanks ignored) because one or two bad mannered people didn't know any better. It's not fair.

I really hope you'll come back after a while and pay it forward so we too have something to pay forward. Please don't be discouraged. CC needs you to keep going!

I understand that you were hurt by that person's comment. I had not seen it yet when I replied earlier. I think the person could have probably worded it better, but I do think if you let that one person's thoughts get to you, you are giving them way to much power in your life. Who cares what they thought? Your step by step obviously helped people, isn't that what sharing is about?

I agree with the statements above. I also think that taking so deeply to heart one negative statement and retracting your creative contributions almost devalues all of the good comments being made on the photos (not to mention in this thread). If telling you 100x over that your work is beautiful and highly appreciated can be over shadowed by 1 negative person, what is the point of providing anyone praise? It's pointless to dwell on negativity. You know what you do here is valuable and beautiful, as do 98% of the people on this website. Keep doing what you're doing and ignore the people who make snide comments...they will always be drowned out by a flow of love and support. That is where your focus should be.
