I also use fondarific.. I love it... It rolls out so easy and smooth the colors are so nice. The grape is to die for... ( : I didnt care for wiltons... it was kind of chemically tasting to me. Marshmallow fondant just doesnt roll out smooth. You have to leave it so thick and it breaks easily. Satin ice is ok but the colors are not so vivid in my opinion. Who has the whitest of white fondant. Duff has a nice fondant but nothing near white. I sent away for samples to all the fondants but only got one no name brand from a homemade source.

I use Virgin Ice. It is what our local Bulk Barn sells. It tastes good and is nice and pliable to work with. I do sometimes feel like the odd container feels a little sticky but i little PS fixes that right up and it has only happened twice. They also stock it in all different colours so YAY.

You know you may just have to try some. What some don't like others love. For example, I love MMF and roll it an 1/8" thick, with no breakage. So no, you don't have to roll it thick. Some will proclaim the evil's of Satin Ice, but I know a few who work with it all the time with great results. I don't like the fruity flavors of fondarific. They just don't make sense on say a chocolate or carrot cake. I'm going to give fondx elite a try, though I'm not really keen on the white chocolate raspberry flavor, cause I can't see that going with every. But either way, you'll just have to try them for yourself to see what works and what doesn't work for you.

I like Fondx. It rolled out beautifully and everyone loved it. I have tried Fondarific, Wilton and Satin Ice. Fondarific is good. The chocolate is a little difficult to roll out at first and it's kind of pricey. Satin Ice well let's just say I won't use it again. As for Wilton I only use it in a pinch if the cake stores are closed and I run out of fondant.

I love Michele Foster's fondant! It's awesome and easy to work with unlike MMF AND it costs very little to make a lot AND you can flavor it however you like!

I agree I love Michele Foster's Fondant, I add white chocolate to it for the extra pliability. I have also tried Jennifer Dontz's semi-homemade fondant and that is also fantastic.

I agree with QTCakes1; you have to try it for yourself because people seem to have different taste preferences.

My personal ranking would be (of what I've tried so far):
chocopan = fondarific > mmf > mff > satin ice

But I'm sure others might have the exact opposite ranking, etc.
Let us know what your verdict is icon_smile.gif

I use Satin Ice for the usual celebration cakes like birthdays, etc. But when I really want to pull out the stops I have my clients taste Massa Grischuna White Chocolate from Albert Uster. IMHO it's the best for handling (it drapes like a dream) and most important taste. It's not cheap (about $80 for 13 pounds. That's about twice the cost of Satin Ice but I can easily cover two 3 tier cakes 6", 9" and 12") with one bucket of Massa Grischuna with a pound or so left over...so for an additional feew bucks I can deliver a cake that is truly memorable for the fondant alone.

Of the products already mentioned, Fondx, MMF, and homemade fondant are the best. However, I have not tried Massa yet.

I order it from Albert Uster. The ship promptly and well insulated which has been a blessing during this heat spell.

I just ordered some.. Thank you.. I have tried so many and like so many
but its nice to try something new. The more workable it is the happier I am.
I will never use MMF again. It's just not for me. At Christmas my Son
got me this ginger bread house kit. Inside was these little colored frosting
packs and little colored/flavored fondant packs.. OMG that stuff rocked.
I tried to find out what brand it was... I got no where... ) : arg!

Wiltons is the only one so far I could find that has a white white fondant.
(To bad it tastes to me like medicine)
I got all my samples in and only one was really white.
It was a no name... so I have to call the lady that shipped it to me to ID it and order some.

*Has anyone ordered/tried Fantastically Fondant yet?
I'm about to order some and thought I'd check here first. ( :

southern, Qt and helen, do you color the massa? I have a weak wrist so I try to use the colors of Fondarific/Duff. But I'm all for trying anything that tastes great. I know FromScratch uses it too. They all have to be shipped to me so the price ends up being a wash with all of them.

I just tried Pettinice and really liked it! It was less expensive than Satin Ice too!
I usually use MMF or MFF because I don't have a business and can't afford the "nice" stuff unless I need black or red. I would prefer this to Satin Ice though...really liked the feel of it. When smoothed, it gets satiny looking. I think the Australians use it all the time! icon_smile.gif I want to be like them! icon_smile.gificon_smile.gif

mrsmudrash.....I use Bakel's (Pettinice) gumpaste and like the way it handles. If it's too soft, I just add a pinch of Tylose powder.

Because I had quite a few cakes to make this month I put my mmf recipe aside to save some time. I tried Satin Ice Vanilla for the first time and I thought it was great. I was worried about the taste as I've tried Wilton's fondant and didn't like the taste at all. But Satin Ice tasted really good and it worked beautifully. There are a lot of places online to buy it from and I'll be using it again.

Here is the newest fondant & piping gel I ordered from http://www.cakesupplies4u.com/departments/fondantgum-pasteicing.aspx
Image
It is so far more white then fondarific, wiltons, satin ice, and MMF.
The smell is like fresh home made buttercream frosting and the taste is the best I ever had so far.
I also got the blue piping gel... It makes some beautiful water scenes on a cake. Image

If anyone lives in maryland (gaithersburg) you can visit Albert Uster and pick it up. They have a ton of out of this world culinary products.
