first fondant cake and it was horrible!

So I had a friend ask me if I knew anyone to make yer daughters birthday cake (for july 1st) Yess...I talked to another friend and she agreed! Only to call me 2 days before and say her and her family will be leaving Thursday night and she can't make the cake! Whatttt?????? How am I supposed to find someone to make a cake for the next day to only for 65$$!!!

Ok ill make it... it can't be that hard!!!! The whole night is going great! I made the cake the frosting and Fondant all from scratch and it was great!! I did this at a friends house so I leave to head home 1am ...while I am driving on the fwy I see a car flip over! My friend tells me to stop...I pull over call 911 and try to see if the person is ok... huge mistake!!!!

The guy kicks his window out and jumps out telling me not to call 911 he's ok... to drive him away from the scene! Not to mention he's drunk and covered in glass and blood! No way! He's telling me he's going to jail for life and he's a convicted felon....so me and my friend walk back to my car to go wait for the police.... and he starts chasing us!

I roll up my Windows and forgot my sun roof was open! He jumps on my car trying to get in thru the roof! So I try to drive off and my friend forgot the cake was sitting on the dash board!!!! It landed on her lap! We get away and the guy runs on the fwy... the 911 dispatcher calls us to go back because no one was at the scene!!!0mg what a crazy night and a disaster!

I'm worried about letting my friend down for her babies cake so we go to 24 hr cvs looking for boxed cake frosting and mmf ingredients....we left with only marshmallows!!! Head back to my house and scrape up the last of the ingredients I have left to make chocolate cake... finally its 6 am my friend runs to the store to buy the rest of what we need ....we finished the cake at 4 !!! Jumped in the shower and headed to the party that started at 5!!!! Complete disaster but we fixed it! And on no sleep!!!![/list]

So when I saw the title of the post I thought it was gonna be a story about how the fondant came out so horrible. But this was MUCH BETTER! what an entertaining story! I'm soooo sorry you had to go through all that -- how scary! But really, what a great story!

Lord...I was watching this play out in my head!! How awful!! So glad you were not hurt. I guess if I see an accident at 1am, I'll call 911 and keep going! Wow

Tell me about it..I laugh now but think how horrible it was..I just wanted to cry!!!! I just thank god through all of this we were safe and I was able to make the cake! But def straight out of a movie....when I got back to the scene they needed me to point out the guy because the helicopter found him hiding in the bushes on the side of the fwy and was denying he was the one who crashed!
Let's just say I learned my lesson trying to do a good deed!! Never again! Lol..

What the hell! Forget the stupid cake! I'm just glad YOU are alright after that incident.

Oh, wow, what a saga!

I'm kind of not getting why you felt it was your responsibility to provide a cake because the decorator your friend hired couldn't do it at the last minute. It certainly was nice of you do do it though.

Hope the drunk drive got what he deserved - people who drive intoxicated, putting other road users in danger make me furious.

Alll jokes aside I would never give my " friend" another cake order. That was messed up to wait last minute and not do the job she said she would.

I am so glad you and your friend are all right. The state that guy was in, he could have been very dangerous and the situation could have gotten really ugly, really fast. Just goes to show you that no good deed goes unpunished. After all of that I don't know if I would have had a steady enough hand to even frost a cake. You two definitely went above and beyond and I hope the person you made the cake for knows what an amazing friend she has in you.

My daughter and I just read your post and we were in tears laughing so hard!! That is horrible that such a thing happened, we were just not expecting a failed fondant title to turn into a crazy movie!! Thank God everyone was ok but atleast now that it is over you can look back and laugh about it.

OH MY GOODNESS!!! you poor thing!! How awful for you both!

I too was expecting to read about a disaster in the kitchen with the fondant and maybe lots of air bubble, stretched fondant, and cake buldges.....but not about something out of a bad movie. So glad to hear that you're Ok.

You're a real trooper for continuing with the cake! I'm sure that's one cake story you'll never forget.
