I know this must be a REAL dumb question but I have to ask ! I need to make pink icing ... I have red... will it make pink if I add some on a toothpick a little at a time??? Or are you supposed to go buy the "pink" color gel, paste or what not? PLEASE reply SOON... I have a baby shower cake to do in a week . Thank you in advance
There is NO such thing as a dumb question-none of us came into this world with all the answers and none of will go out of this world with all the answers-so feel free to ask away. To me the best way to make pink from red is to add white..plain ole white buttercream or you can use the liquid white-white from Wilton until you get what you want-I personally would use the white buttercream first because you may have to use alot of the liquid. Hope that helps. Make some regular buttercream and add some red to it til you get what you want!
Ok, you can use red but use very little and make it pale pink. As the color sets it will be come darker. Is the cake for this weekend, if not do a test run.
mix some tonight and let it sit to make sure it does not get to a red shade, I would perfer to use americolor gel color in pink.
I hope I help, sorry, could not be helpful.
Thank you very much ladies.. I thought I could just use red but when I did a search I seen "pink" coloring and freaked out lol. The cake is for next week ... I plan on doing a test cake this weekend . I will do as you advise and let it sit awhile ... I normally dont do that
Again.. THANK YOU
I've used red to get pink before when I ran out of the pink coloring...it will work. My advice: 1) add just a tiny bit at a time, then when you have about 1 shade lighter than what you want...STOP! Cover & put in the fridge overnight...the longer it sits, the darker it gets, even after you've iced the cake. So if you can let it sit in the fridge overnight or 24 hrs at best, then you'll know just how "pink" it will be considering how much coloring you added....that make sense?! lol 2) Before you color your buttercream, take some and put it aside in a bowl, that way if the color gets too "red" you can lighten it with some plain white buttercream.
Hope that helps!
