Oreo Filling - Can I Just Add Oreos To The Icing?

I have a request for oreo filling and was wondering if I should just add oreos to the buttercream and use that for the filling? I saw a recipe on here that uses marshmallow fluff, shortening and oreos...but just wondering if I should go to the trouble of making it when I already have the buttercream made. What do you think?
Oh, and it is for a WASC cake with buttercream icing.

I have, and the kids loved it. I found it a little sweet. I think it may depend on the icing you use. I used a buttercream, and found it worked great with just the cookie crumbs. With a less sweet icing, the whole cookie was fab!
