I was asked to make a cake for our 20 year class reunion, so i agreed that it would be my contribution. it will also be the last cake for me to make. after 10 years and 1000's of cakes, i just cannot continue due to fibromyalgia (the stress and late nights are killing me a day or two afterward). here is some info on the reunion:

75-100 people (i'm doing a tiered cake)
red, white, and black school colors
warrior mascot
casual buffet style informal venue
2 weeks away

my dilema is that i love to paint and do 3-d details and have thought of making fondant footballs, basketballs, letters, warrior head, books, etc... but for some reason i really want to do something super elegant and simple. just cannot make up my mind, what do you think, do you guys have any ideas????

Sorry I can't really help with design ideas. I just wanted to agree I have a hard time making up my minds sometimes too! It's so much easier when someone tells you what they want! Usually I have so many things running through my mind, it makes it hard to pick one when i get free reign.

As a side note, I think making an elegant cake would be fun. In a way it kind of shows how you've all come a long way since High School. You could always do something elegant in your H.S.'s colors. icon_smile.gif

A blast from the past...
Why not do all the icons from 1991, wow, 20 years already?
Put it on a base cake of school colors:
Original Game boy: Ninja Turtles, Paula Abdul, Bryan Adams, Boys II men, Roller Blade Barbie, Super Soaker, K'nix

this might help:

Simple and classy and fun and funky....

You already said, you're doing a tiered cake. What if, instead of a winding trail of flowers, as one would find at a wedding, you did a winding trail of school things like you mentioned above...gotta include chorus, band, business, shop, memorable features of the school, the principal, school letters, if your class had a motto...

Watch everyone pick out all the things they remember ...a reminiscing feature that will prompt discussions of ...OMG! Do you remember....????

I just did my 30 yr reunion cake, its the tiered cake with the cardinal on top in my pics I did the cardinal in gumpaste and painted the features. I had to take it 2 1/2 hours away. It ended up being a big hit, I was glad it made it in one piece.
