So I saw a friend of mine that had someone make her a logo...he did it in exchange for burgers lol (they have a burger business) so I asked what he charged and he says...let me see what I can do...next thing I know I'm giving him input he made me this gorgeous logo which I LOVEE!!! And I insisted on at least giving him a cake, so I'm making him a 1/2 sheet for his kids' graduation! I feel like I'm taking advantage instead of being the one that's being taken advantage of for a change....feels weird lol

Let me know what you think about the logo?

ok, it will not let me attach thumbsdown.gif check it out on the homepage of my website...it has my business name and number

I like the text, I would have gone with a slightly different layout though since there is a lot of white space and the cherry looks out of place -- I would have ditched the cherry and put "Sugar and Shack" on the same line with the cupcake (or a picture of a tiered cake) between the "h" and "k" in "Shack".

Also, unless your phone number is a virtual number (i.e. Google Voice) you'll probably want to separate the phone number from the logo, so if the number changes it is easy to update the web site.

I'm going to have to agree with Jason about the cherry. It looks really out of place to me. I think it's because that looks like a picture of a cherry and not a graphic of one (Does that make senses?). I think having a graphic cherry would make it look a little better. Maybe scale the size of it down a little as well. But that's something I think you'd have to see some samples of to determine for sure.

Love it! Love the cherry placement - I think it should be smaller though, it would look more like an apostrophe. Cute concept!
Also - grammar cop - sorry- the site states: "Tina's Sugar Shack is the winner of Wilton's Decorate To Celbrate Contest!"
Don't you mean "celebrate"?

Super cute, love the logo and website! Something that caught my eye was your promotion with the stamps on the back of your business card - I am looking for ways to promote my business and think this is a great idea! Can I ask where you get the stamps made? (Is it like a sticker stamp or an ink stamp?) does it help with return customers, etc?

I haven't yet seen your site (taking an age to load here), but just wanted to say I'm in the same boat with regards to logo- I'm just starting up and luckily have a friend who did 7 years in art school who is doing my logo free of charge- all he asks is that he gets to taste any new recipes!!

Bargain!! icon_biggrin.gif

Whoa, I looked after I saw this, no way can I make money doing that! That won't cover my overhead, and I bake from a commercial kitchen in my garage.

I agree that the big red cherry looks odd. I think it should look more like the cherry on the cupcake.

I think the whole logo should be smaller. I also agree that the cherry should be smaller or eliminated and that you should separate the phone number.
Just my 2 cents.

I made the business cards on vistaprint and it had the stamp thing as an option for the back of the cards. I bought a teeny tiny 3 tiered wedding cake rubber stamp off of ebay (I think the entire stamp is 1/2" tall by 1/4" wide) and I stamp the cards when people order/pay. Before I got the stamper I just either initialed in the spot or I printed out labels with teeny little cakes that I cut off and stuck in place...could do anything, even a different shaped hole punch, anything that can't be duplicated by cheating customers...and yes...I've had people purposefully order 6 times to get 25% off of a wedding cake ( in the end they saved $100 off the wedding cake, but spent over $300 ordering 6 times...but they had other family members ordering/paying under their name so it worked for them and I got a lot more business that way)

And yes, everyone...I know my prices seem cheap! I'm in a dinky little town and I charge $1.50/serv. more than anyone in a 40 mile radius...I do make a profit...I work out of my home and am a one woman company...so I don't have a TON of overhead besides the normal gas, water, electric, etc. and it all gets taken off and I claim my taxes and believe it or not...last year I made about $20,000 profit...which is not bad considering I was only doing one or two cakes a week at most!

I tried trading a business card design with our graphic designers. (I do business coaching) And here is the laugh - the reply came back 'Oh we in a bit of a muddle at the moment - when we are more focused we will definately book some coaching! Talk about completely missing the point......

Anyway fast forward a few months and they have designed me a fab logo for the new web site - it is written in icing and I love it. They have also done me a great cover with a funky title for a tips booklet which is nearly ready to go out - needless to say, I am getting a bill - because they are still too disorganised to book me up. icon_sad.gif What can I say................

Thanks! Take it, can you right click and copy? Or do you need me to email it? It is all free share ware, with no restrictions on use. I can change things in it if you'd like it better. I enjoy doing it.

I like the font used on your website compared to the on on flicker. It's much more pleasing to the eye. I oh so love your "Cake for Christ" and Prayer Sections!

I'm kinda torn on the cherry...I think it sticks out because it's a different cherry than the one on the cupcake. However, I love the idea. So that's why I'm torn.

I also agree with the others on your pricing. If you start off too low than it will be hard for you when you're ready to raise them.

Congrats on winning the Wilton Contest

KHalstead: I live in a very rural area as well. I just did a batch of 48 chocolate Kahlua cupcakes for $46.00. This seems fairly low but it is what my market dictates and I am still able to make a profit.

Annabakescakes...I right clicked and saved it. The initial cherry on the logo, I kinda liked how it stood out too...but everyone else seemed to think it'd look better....I think the logo you made looks awesome..I wonder if it's not the font but the coloring...I think my original is a little warmer of a pink maybe?? I dunno.

GuiltyPleasures....I'm with you.....I charged $1.00/ea and people still bought them but I felt like it wasn't much cupcake for that price (I use the regular standard cupcake liners/pans) and it's like 3 bites of cupcake. I started to bake the bigger ones but realized they are TWICE the size and I couldn't charge $2.00...nobody would touch em' so I went back with the smaller ones because my profit was more! With my liners and all I turn a decent profit and can make 48 at a time in 15 min. so I make more profit timewise than I do on sheet cakes!
