I have to make a cake for Tuesday and need to do a fbct. My question is....where do you get the freezer safe glass to do your transfer on? I am off tomorrow and thinking of going to a local glass shop here to see what they can do for me.

Any suggestions out there????

I just put mine on a normal cutting board. Some people just put it on a cake board. I wouldn't go out and buy anything fancy for it. I'm sorry if I misunderstood the question.

The reason that some people suggest glass or plexiglass is if you want to be able to pick it up and see what the transfer looks like. I've never used this and just make sure I take my time and really get all the nooks and crannies, then when I'm done I smoosh it down lightly with my finger.
If you want to get the plexiglass, it would probably be cheaper and you can get that at Home Depot or some type of store like that.

I really like using the plexi glass. I have caught mistakes by being able to look at what is actually going on the cake. I also think lowes or home depot is probably the best place to get this, Just be sure you get it cut small enough to fit in your frezzer (unlike me)! lol

Thank you everyone, I didn't think of plexiglass but that would probably be a lot cheaper. Wish me luck as this will be my first every fbct and it is for dh work icon_cry.gif

I'll post pics when I get it finished. Thanks again

I use a piece of cardboard. Never had a problem with it. I don't tape it down so much that I can't peel a few piece and peek at it. icon_smile.gif

If you are going to use something transparent you have to be careful as some qualities of glass can crack or break when frozen, this is why plexiglass is recommended, it can handle freezing safely. Yes you still use waxed paper, parchment or some folks use plastic wrap, a transparency or plastic sheet protector. If using a transparency be careful to use one that isn't treated with chemicals.
