I am going to make a batch of MMF today so it has time to sit for at least a day like the recipe suggests. What I'm using it for is to make a Friday the 13th theme cake - Using it to make the Jason hockey mask and I want it to be curved slightly like the mask actually is (as opposed to just being flat).

I was planning on cutting it out and laying it on a roll of unopened paper towel with a piece of wax paper or parchment between the fondant mask and the paper towel roll, but I think I waited too long after reading some posts on here about how long it takes for fondant to dry. I need the cake done by Friday afternoon.

I've seen some posts on here that suggest adding Gumpaste or tylose (not sure where I'd find that here, but I know Hobby Lobby or Michael's carries Wilton's gumpaste) to the MMF will help it dry much faster.

My questions are:

- How much gumpaste would I need to add to one batch of Rhonda's Ultimate MMF to make it dry out faster?

- When adding gumpaste, do I still wrap the MMF in Crisco and plastic wrap to sit overnight or can I do the mask as soon as I make it?

- Finally, can I paint on the dried decoration with a mix of Everclear or vodka and Wilton's gel coloring without it bleeding? What is the best ratio?

It all depends on how much humidity that you have. If you are only making a decoration that no one will want to eat anyways I would make it out of gumpaste and it will dry quickly for you. I never let my MMF sit overnight and have never had a problem. Asfor the painting I paint with straight gel color and have not had problems.HTH

Is this made with the gumpaste mix or pre-made gumpaste? I guess I didn't think to ask how people combine that with MMF.

I always do 100% straight gumpaste. It dries as hard as a rock! I know that some people use 50/50, but I've never tried it. I don't see the problem though, with doing 50/50 with MMF. There's all kinds of fondant out there, and everyone uses a different kind - I haven't heard of it not working with a certain brand, like Wilton, Satin Ice or Fondariffic so I would think MMF would work just as well.

I bought some of the Wilton's Gumpaste Mix tonight, but now I'm reading reviews where people have had nothing but problems with it. I don't mind using 100% gumpaste to make this, I just didn't know how fast I'd have to work to roll it out, cut the shape of the mask, cut the eye holes and the smaller holes as are in a hockey mask before it totally dried. And if I can paint it with gel colors once it's dry without them bleeding.
