Can anybody help me to convert american measurements into english. I have come across the brilliant recipe for oreo cupcakes but dont know how to do them in ounzes or grams. I found one conversion that said one cup of sugar converts to 8oz but this recipe calls for 2 cups of sugar and that means 16oz of sugar in one cupcake recipe and that seems an awful lot!!! Please help.
That's about right. A lot of places have it as 7 ounces though, which is what I go with.
So maybe your recipe is not correct if it asks for so much sugar. But since I can't see the recipe, there wont be a way to determine that. At the very least, your recipe has 14 oz of sugar.
1 cup of sugar = 190-200 grams = 7 ounces

Thank you for your reply. This is the recipe that I was wanting to bake but I get so confused . The sugar content does seem an awful lot dont you think?

That's the Hershey's cake recipe. People swear by it. I've never made it. Seems that the recipe is OK, though. It might seem a lot to you only because it makes 30 cupcakes or so.
Why don't you cut the recipe in half and just try a few? You would still get 15 cupcakes to try.
See recipe here. Same amounts.

Actually, two cups of sugar is not outrageous. Most of my cakes have two cups of sugar, and I've baked them as cupcakes, too.
