I need to do a graduation cake cake for 100. All I can come up with is three tiers in either square or round and all the designs I can think of just remind me of wedding cakes. I will likely put a grad cap and dipolma on the top, and the colors are blue and white. Any creative suggestions how to avoid the "wedding" look on a tiered cake. I don't want to do a topsy turvy for this.
You can do the square cakes but stack them in different directions. You know, not having the flat side facing front. Have them so the point faces you alternating each one facing the other way. I hope I am explaining correctly. Or make the squares look like books and then top with the grad cap and add a rolled diploma on one tier.
I was thinking the same thing.
Check this cake out.

I did a two tiered graduation cake for two cousins. I decorated a tier for each one, taking into consideration what they liked. Then topped it off with a graduation cap. Hope this helps! Good luck.
The idea that popped into my head was to do one layer square, the next layer square but turned (flat sides line up with corners), and the third layer round, which would be the base of the mortarboard (graduation cap) with a flat piece of cardboard or plastic, covered with fondant, on top with the tassel hanging over the edge.
Just an idea.
Thanks everyone. I guess I'll get my pans out and start playing with different ways to stack them.
