Hi...

I told my brother I would make a basketball cake (from the ball pan by Wilton). I tried making it for my son's smash cake....and did everything normal, but when I added the fondant, it turned more dome like, than round.

How can I prevent the ball from turning flat on the bottom? I am supposed to raise the ball on a plastic tube....

I was thinking to trim a little of the bottom off, and put a board for it to sit on the tube....but I am not sure how to prevent the weight of the cake from collapsing!

ANY HELP FROM ANYONE IS MUCH APPRECIATED!

Thanks

Make sure you chill teh cake well before covering in buttercream, then chill again before covering in fondant.
It also helps to use a more sturdy (?) cake, and do not overfill with filling.
Good luck icon_smile.gif

everytime i made the ball cake, yes i sat it on a small piece or cardboard and supported it with plastic dowel but i also use a pound cake batter, so the ball stays firmer and do not collapse, keeps more its shape. hope this helps you!

I just made that cake and if you read the instruction manual, it does say to make a sturdier cake. It gives you the recipe on the paper. Good Luck!
