Did you ever forget something really important?

I'd like to blame it on the fact that I haven't slept well for a week due to a bad cough. But I got some prescribed medication..with codine in it ...and I could use THAT as an excuse. Add in the fact that I ran out of wax paper, sent dd to the store to get some and then found another roll in the pantry so I was a bit befuddled already that morning...

But none of that really matters when you realize that the last two hours of painstakingly detailing with icing the picture you need to transfer onto a cake was a waste of time since you didn't put any wax paper on the plexiglass.

Did you hear me scream from California, NOOOOOO!

That's right. I forgot the wax paper so that beautiful design that I so carefully piped was a big waste of my icing. ARGH!!!!

I was so frustrated. There were about nine different tinted colors involved. icon_eek.gif I could have cried.

I barely had time to freehand a less than perfect logo ( I was making a box of Nerd candy ) and get it to the function. I didn't want a picture of the cake since in my head and on the plexiglass it was so different. So unsatisfying.

At least my kids got to enjoy it. They scrapped it off with rubber spatula and ate it with the cake scrapes. Sigh.

I hope my Tangled cake turns out better tomorrow. Before I go to bed tonight, I'm putting the wax paper on my plexiglass. thumbs_up.gif

So sorry this happened, and that you've not been feeling well. Good idea to prep ahead!

Sorry you haven't been feeling well. Isn't it always when we're not well, tired, or super busy that these things happen? I once forgot to add Vanilla Extract to a HUGE batch of Vanilla cakes and once forgot choc. chips in chocolate chips cookies, and didn't notice until several trays were baked...YUP, done that, been there...overworked, overtired, distracted, and sometimes overly confident icon_wink.gif Bet you won't forget the wax paper again! Hope your weekend is better!!

I have at various times , forgotten, the butter, the sugar, sometimes the eggs, the cherry ripes when making a cherry ripe mudcake. to line the bottom of the tin, ( did the sides and forgot to put the bottom piece in.

I mainly do mudcakes that are made with the melt and mix method. so a phonecall at an inopportune moment can sometimes spell disaster

I made 4 almond cakes one night since a friend wanted a simple 9x13 cake last minute making stupid mistakes. First one, forgot baking soda, powder, second, didn't put enough pan spray as it fell apart as I took out of the pan, 3rd, forgot eggs. Finally got a decent one at about 1am.

Simple, right?? We've all done 'em!

plexiglass method with wax paper , now that sounds like something I need to know.. what do you do but the photo under the plexiglass, wax paper on top of plexiglass and then color flow? or buttercream?
If buttercream do you have to put plexiglass in freezer then?

oh anyone have photos or experiences I would love to hear and see them

Oh my gosh yes.....I had a wedding cake in another county, about a good 1/2 hour drive away..and it's raining....outdoor wedding (poor bride and groom).

Through all the mess of the rain (hoping that it will let up) I'm setting up the cake and I relized I FORGOT the top tier........Couldn't go home and get it (rain and traffic was horrible..)
I had my granddaughter pick it up and deliver it to me. Get the cake done and it is now pouring. so we moved the cake to higher ground.... Luckly I had been early to deliver and had the extra time to wait for my stupid mistake to arrive and re-set everything.

I go over my list once, twice and more to make sure I have everything.....left it sitting on the counter....Yes I forgot something important....

I feel your pain! I was making some Valentines Day cupcakes and realised I'd measured the sugar wrong so had to dump the batter from the mixing bowl. Next batch I had the sugar and butter creaming in the Kitchenaid bowl and decided to just crack the eggs straight in while it was beating....and dropped the shell in. The beater just crushed it right into the batter - so I had to dump that one too.

I finally made them and have to say I thought they were beautiful. A friend came and collected a 12-cake box and started to put in in her shopping bag sideways so the cupcakes would all fall out icon_surprised.gif I told her they should be held flat..duh!
I put some photos of them on my Facebook page and she had the cheek to comment saying "They didn't look like that when I got them home" I despair icon_rolleyes.gif

I spent 2 hours once doing the FFA emblem as a FBCT, only to figure out after it came out of the freezer that I never reversed the image and the whole thing was backwards. Since the emblem had letters in it, there was no way I could slap it on there and pretend it was right.

The second one took an hour and a half, and was the last time I did it. I'd done two of the same emblem before, so I 'knew' better, just didn't think about it.

I've made plenty of stupid mistakes over the years and came to this conclusion: If I don't make a list, bad things happen. Period! icon_rolleyes.gif Sooooo, now whenever I have a cake due, from the word go I make a list -- and put EVERYTHING on it!! Stuff like: cover the board; put ribbon around the cake board; glue cake boards together; yada yada yada. If I don't put everything from the really complex to the really basic stuff on this list, SOMETHING will get left behind. It comes with experience I guess! icon_biggrin.gif

I think the worst thing I've ever done was put cookies in the oven and about 5 minutes later....I realized I forgot the flour. NEVER BAKE WHEN YOUR TIRED! lol
