Icing Miniature Tiered Cakes - Tutorial
Decorating By all4cake Updated 12 Jul 2011 , 10:52pm by all4cake
I've made several tutorials on icing miniature cakes. I use the same technique whether I opt to stack them or not. I hope they offer some help to those wanting to tackle them.
I do want to say, while I do give them 3 coats of buttercream, those coats still don't equal the thickness of the average coat of buttercream on a larger tier. Altogether, the thickness may be a smidge thicker than what is found between an original Oreo cookie.

4", 3", 2" cutters were used. 1" sheet cake, 2 cuts per tier equalling a bit over 2" tall, after filling.
You bet! I'm going to make one working with mini squares next. Maybe another mini one working with ganache as well.
Great tutorial..I have tried once doing mini cakes..Never again..LOL..I have to get better...
Thanks!
I do them...for me...just to do 'em. For the most part, it'll be easy goin' (there is usually one stinkin' itty bitty tier that will ruin the flow for me...quite often, that same stinkin' tier is chocolate!).
I wasn't too thrilled with doing them until I thinned my icing and did multiple thin coats. Getting beyond the crumb coat was the biggest challenge before that.
Tell the truth, I am not sure. Is it possible to send a video file. or is that too big a file to send, I don't know, not really computer savvy
Thanks so much for posting these. I really enjoyed watching them. They look so very time consuming though.
They're not as fussy as they seem to be in the videos...Filming definitely interrupts the flow.
They are more time consuming than cupcakes though
The last square tutorial will be up before I go to bed. Uploading it now. Should be up within the hour...should be.
great work and thank you for taking the time to do this!
greatly appreciated by all of us!

Ya'll are so welcome!
I'd love to do a dozen (or any set number), in real time, from start (after the cake is baked and the icing and filling(if any) is made) to finish. To show, they reeeeeeeeally aren't all that difficult...and can definitely be successfully done by pretty much anyone (some may need to take more shake off the frustration breaks than others though).
Keep an eye out for new ones!
