Hey all,

I am doing these cupcakes for a 4th of July celebration, and I just love the way the icing was piped on. Any ideas as to how it was done?

Thanks!!

Looks like a Wilton Tip 8B. Its one of those huge tips that doesnt work with a coupler. Its like a huge open star. It makes drop stars that have a circle in the middle. from the top down they kind of look like a flower rather than a star. Those cupcakes do look neat and it would be cool to frost one with just two plops of icing. Hope that helps.

She just posted a tutorial on her site showing how she got that same ruffle effect on the side of the cake.

You're not dumb. I am baker's tutorial is for the 104 ruffled cake side rows.

Her ruffle rows are not quite the same as the cupcakes shown in the OPs link. You could experiment though. I've not tried it, but maybe turn your bag with a 104 tip sideways and pipe. That might do it. Test it it on your practice board first. Pipe with the wide opening out, then try it with the wide opening in, so you'll be able to see if you're getting the proper effect.

Another side ruffle how to, from Sweet and Saucy. There's a link to her youtube video under the pink cake.
