Not sure where to post this at...but.. Does anyone know where to get a large cake stand/plate...like around 22 inches. That is reuseable. Everything I find is acrylic/plastic/cheap metal and its really expensive. I don't mind paying for something but it has to be nice. My local glass company is willing to special order me a half inch thick piece of glass, do you think that would hold the weight?

A stand that big will be very expensive. Have you considered getting a few 24" cake drums and covering them in fondant?

I had my husband make me some out of 3/4" plywood and just lately he wasn't able to cut out some more so I asked a friend. I take a deposit to cover the cost of the plywood if a customer doesn't return it. I think a sheet of plywood costs about $25 and you can get quite a few of cake boards out of that. Ask around, your friends, neighbors church members, school, if they can use a saw they can cut some boards for you. I have them round my corners instead of leaving them sharp square and I cover them in fondant or whatever I want to. The plywood is very sturdy so I don't worry about cracking when I have to deliver heavy cakes.

For prettiness I place my cake on silver stands that I bought on ebay, it was a set of 4 or 5. Are you asking about stands or drums, the drums can be covered in something pretty as well.

Don't think that you will find a beautiful stand that won't cost you. I just ordered a stand for my cousins wedding next month from amazon...it is just 14", gold plated and with the shipping cost me a little over $100! icon_eek.gif You want beautiful, you're going to have to pay for it! icon_wink.gif
I like your idea about the glass, sounds like it would be pretty and unique. Not too sure about it supporting the weight of the cake though. How big will your cake be? Maybe a pro could offer more helpful advice?

for those pretty little gold or silver footed cake plates that you see on line ebay or where ever make sure that you put some styrofoam or something under that little stand because the little cute feet will just bend out from under the weight of the cake.

It was on one of the fabulous cake shows that they showed this big purple cake that they wanted to cut asap because two of the feet bent..

Me i always put a round of wood or styrofoam under it and wrap the edges with black trim so that it isn't noticed or you can put flowers around the space.

just thought i would mention this so that the no one had any problems at the last minute when putting a cake together.

I use thick foam core. that works for a lighter cake board but sturdy.

I charge a deposit for all my equipment and then put the cost of the board into the cake because half time doesn't come back.
