This is super easy, and I use it for larger cakes at work. When I was at Lowes hardware store, I found some finished table tops that were 22" (i think) round. They are made of maple (or pine) and just need a light coat of polyurethene (spelling?). I also found a lazy susan kit in the hardware section. All you need are a few wood screws and some sandpaper. Give the wood a couple thin coats of polyurethene, and sand it nice and smooth. turn it over and attach the lazy susan to the middle of the wood cirlce with the wood screws. Turn it back over, and its done!! I added some lubricant so it spun easily. The whole project cost me less than $25, about 2 hours or so to do (with the drying time and sanding). This is awesome for larger cakes, and I can fit my wedding cake stands on the turntable so makes decorating so much easier. if you are decorating the sides and dont want the turntable to move, just shove a towel under the back edge.

Great idea for big cakes! For small cakes, I use the turn tables that are sold as spice holders for the cabinet. Not a completely smooth spin, but it works And they are only about $7 each.

I found some good solid lazy sus. turn tables in a yard sale and only paid 1.00 each, one is small like a 12" size and the other is more like a 16"...made from solid wood...and I love working with them....
