You can add a black food coloring, I would suggest using only a gel or paste coloring. The thing with that is it will get very hard to work with after adding that much black and it will be hard to achieve a true black that way. It's been suggested that starting with the darkest pre-made fondant possible like brown and then adding black to that is a better method. When I have to have black fondant I always order it online, it's way easier that way. Hope this helps and good luck!

Its pretty much impossible to make a black fondant with color gels or food color. On top of bad tasting fondant from the color, youll loose the consistency of the fondantit will be soft and impossible to work with. Suggest buying from Satin Ice or Duff. You can get Duffs black fondant at Michaels and some Wal MartI even think Party City is selling Duffs product now.

Plus, it saves a big mess if you buy it precolored icon_smile.gifthumbs_up.gif

When I need colored fondant I put gel color in my melted marshmellows before adding powdered sugar.

You brought Wilton's white fondant...you would be better off just getting some black pre-colored fondant. I have done it before...but I use two of the large wilton black color gel... & that was for fondant that was the size of a fist. Save yourself the headache & frustration; there's a back that says skin tone ... that has black in it. use that or use black fondant from another brand

Don't use wilton black gel color. It's terrible, you have to use a ton, it never really gets true black no matter how much you add, it tastes gross, and because you use so much it really changes the consistency of your fondant. I only use americolor super black. it's cheaper and a LOT better. I would personally make chocolate mmf (i use hershey's special dark cocoa powder when making black fondant because it's a deeper brown). I add the cocoa and black gel to the melted marshmallow mixture before adding the powdered sugar. You may have to work a bit of corn starch in to help with the consistency, but it will work great.
