Hello! This is my first post in this forum so here it goes. I use the FBCT method alot. When I search this site for ideas (example Hello Kitty) I notice that some of the images are done in fondant. I'm guessing they're called fondant appliques?? They look so clean & neat I would love to know how to do this. I do alot of cakes using images I find online but I would love to know how to make these images using fondant. Can anyone tell me please????
For an image like that, I would take an internet image or page from a coloring book and make a template. Then place the cornstarched template on rolled out fondant and use an exacto knife or pastry cutter (depending on what size/shape I'm cutting) to cut around the template, cutting out the design. If I need to put pieces together or layer, I make a few templates, one per layer or section of the design.
I kinda figured that is what you would have to do, is make a template. But that could get pretty tedious.

Most I've done end up being pretty easy. To be safe, I make sure I make them well ahead of time and store them in a labeled ziplock bag. Also, if it's something small/detailed and I'm worried about cutting or ruining the template when using it to cut the fondant, I make extras.
I've also never tried a RIT or a color flow transfer. But I was wondering how would something like that do laying on a BC cake. Would the BC cause is to break down?
