Uk asking for USA help, Cookie cake?

I have been asked to do a cookie cake from an American friend of mine for a 4th July party/BBQ he is having, he wants it decorated as the American flag which is not a problem, but he decribed the cake as a single sheet cookie cake ( choc chip) with the decoration on top.
I just need your help that I am understanding him correctly that its just a single layer sheet sponge cake, so this should be like normal, soft and moist not like a cookie in taste or texture.
Hope this make sense, and thanks for your help in advance.

I think what he might be referring to is a large cookie, like 12in! http://badgersportspark.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/cookie-cake.jpg
These are popular in like shopping malls...I have never ordered nor made one, I prefer cake icon_smile.gif BUT, I am almost certain thats what he means! You could do a 13x9 in cake and decorate it to look like the American flag! Just a thought icon_smile.gif

Hell'o I have never made one of these but in our local shopping mall, a cookie cake is just one big cookie with buttercream decorations on it. Most of the ones that I have seen are chocolate chip and oatmeal. I hope this helps. Google cookie cake and you will see pictures of different ones.

I have made cookie "cakes". It is really a large cookie decorated with buttercream icing. If you have a good chocolate chip recipe (most popular type in USA) or oatmeal you can use that. Otherwise, here in the states you can buy refrigerated cookie dough in tubes or large tubs. Line your baking sheet with parchment paper and leave a 1 inch over hang on 2 sides to use to lift the cookie out later. Press the dough evenly into the pan with your hands to desired thickness, 1/2 inch is good . Bake at 325 degrees Fahrenheiht (sorry it don't know conversion to Celsius) for about 30-40 minutes depending on thickness of dough, size of pan, and oven temp. Let cool in pan about 10 minutes and using hanging parchment carefully lift out of pan and onto cooling rack. If cookie is very large you may want someone to help you support the underside of cookie while moving. Let cookie cool completely and then decorate with buttercream icing. Good Luck!
