I could really use some ideas for an 80th birthday cake for a woman. Has to be a sheet cake. I have some ideas, but nothing is standing out to me. Help please!

I suggested this in another thread, but I still like it a lot: have you ever seen the Maxine cartoons? Maxine is a feisty old broad who has some really pithy things to say about aging. There are several cakes on here with Maxine on them - just do a search in the galleries section, and then google her for other ideas.

This is a beautiful cake by one of the cc'ers - cassiescakes. I saved it as one of my favorites and maybe she would not mind me suggesting it! I hope to try something similar soon. I thought it was a pretty sheet cake!

You're right, rpaige, that's one pretty cake! I guess it depends a lot on the personality of the person getting the cake. Maxine is the girl I'd like to see on my 80th birthday cake (which isn't THAT far away!), but I have to admit I'm a real sucker for the pretty, flowery ones, too!

My grandmother's 90th birthday is coming soon and I'm hoping to do a pretty sheet cake for her. She is a gardener but no longer able to do as much as she used to. Cassiescakes sheet cake was so pretty and feminine. I think that is why that cake just popped in my mind when the OP asked. It might also be that I just like making flowers and I certainly need the practice!

I hope to see what cake the OP decides on - maybe it will inspire me as well.

Thanks for the suggestions! I like the ones with flowers. I was thinking along those lines

kakeladi always has such beautiful cakes. I liked several of her suggestions and techniques as well.

I hope georgiapuddinpie will post her cake when complete.
