I am making isomalt gems/diamonds for the first time. The first several batches turned slightly yellow. they are clear but almost an amber color. pretty and transparent but i need them to be clear.
I also have read that you can luster dust them to make them look more like real diamonds, but all the luster dusts i have tried make them look like pearls or opals. Can someone please help me with this.
thanks so much
Maybe try the Cake Play isomalt sticks. They're already pre-cooked so you just have to melt what you need in the microwave.
I've never heard of using luster dust, but you'd probably want to put it just on the backs, like the silver on the backs of rhinestones.
They may be amber for several reasons: low grade isomalt (too many impurities), minerals in your water (distilled water works better), not scooping off the foam from the cooked isomalt (contains impurities), overcooking to too high a temp (you need to shock it in cold water when it reaches temp or it will keep cooking), something on the surface on your mold.
