Duff Blue Fondant Is Not Blue...how To Fix?????
Decorating By Maria925 Updated 11 Jun 2011 , 9:52pm by Lori2240
I'm working on my niece's Wonder Woman cake for tomorrow. I had to buy Duff fondant from Michael's because I didn't have time to order SI. I open it up and it's not really blue. It's a kind of turquoise color. Is there a way to fix this??? I tried adding some royal blue gel to it, but it doesn't seem to be working. This blue needs to be a true blue!!! Aaaaaack!
Any advice????
Do you have any white? You'd probably be better off just starting with white and adding the Royal Blue.
As a painter I know you can't get blue from turqoise but you can get turqoise from blue. Blue is a primary color. You can't mix anything to get it.
Sorry.

Thank you Molly. Can't fight the color wheel
I wonder if painting over it with the gel/vodka combo would do anything? I'm starting to get desperate!!!
Oh man! I hope someone comes up with a solution cause I'm in the same boat. What was Duff thinking trying to pass that off as blue!
Just a thought. What about adding black coloring. You could try a a small piece of fondant and and black gel color.
I think Duff Blue is quite a bit the same as Satin Ice blue. I am attaching the Satin Ice Color Mix Chart in case it helps you get anywhere close to the shade you need.
Also, if you have no other fondant colors and can only add additional gel color I have included a chart for that as well. It might get you a bit closer to what you need.

Well since I was going to have to go to the store for the vodka to paint with, my hubs went to Walmart bought me white fondant and colored it blue for me. It looks much better, but I so hate the taste of Wilton fondant. The Duff/Fonderific stuff tastes so yummy. Oh well...at least it looks right
And I think I'm going to call or email them about the color. The label shows that it is a true blue and I really feel it's not represented correctly!
Thank you all for your advice
Duff's white is NOT white either! It is more of an ivory color so I cannot use it for white and use Wilton with coupon of course. I only use Wilton for embellishments though, not to cover a n entire cake. Good Luck!

Thank you so much for the color mixing chart! I've been looking for this!
Yeah, I agree that Duff's white is not white either. Just found this out 2 days ago when I had a very large cake board covered in Wilton white and then covered the cake in Duff's white. It was ivory on top of stark white. UGH! I would think that Duff would know as a cake decorator that those details are important when labeling the correct colors.
