Scrapbooking Wood Mounted Rubber Stamps For Use On Cookies?
Decorating By My_Little_Cake_Shop Updated 4 Jun 2011 , 10:24am by My_Little_Cake_Shop
Hi everyone,
Wanted to know if it is ok to use the wood mounted rubber stamps mostly used for scrapbooking to stamp patterns or pictures on cookies covered with royal icing? of course the stamps are brand new and they will ONLY be used to dip in food coloring and stamp on cookies or edible items. NEVER in ink! Is the rubber itself a problem?
Thanks!
If they are mounted they are not food safe. There is a place that sells food safe ones. Its sweetstamping.com
I think the clear ones are okay but i am not 100% sure
I saw a blog recently (and can't remember which), but she was using a rubber stamp that may or may not been food safe... BUT she put plastic wrap down on top of the fondant she was stamping so the stamp never touched the fondant!
maybe that helps!
Think about how long the stamp is going to be in contact with the food...do you think your cookies will become contaminated in the 2 seconds the stamp is in contact with the cookie?

i used to agree with the 2 second rule too - till i saw a mythbusters episode showing how contaminated food gets in those 2 seconds!
the plastic wrap sounds like a great idea tho.
The plastic wrap would only work if you are trying to make an impression into unbaked cookies. If you are wanting to stamp on coloring, you will need to find food safe rubber stamps.
I believe some of the non-food safe pf those rubber stamps is in the adhesive (toxic) used to attache the rubber (possibly also treated with toxic chemicals) part to the wood.

Oh ok so they are a no no?
So the contamination is in the rubber itself?
I want to use them with color stamping so the plastic will not work.
Hmmmm I was thinking of stamping cookies covered with fondant or royal icing with pictures of characters that kids at a party could color using edible markers as part of the party entertainment.
