Hi everyone.....it's a bitter-sweet moment for me.....

I just dropped off my baby at school for the first time. (GULP) She's only 3. Just thought I'd share my simultaneous joy and pain.

Thanks...

I know how you feel. I have two little ones too. But what I have found out is that they take it a lot better than us moms do. I'm sure she is fine. It just may take you a couple of days, weeks, or (like me) years to be some what ok with it. Good Luck with your day.

It's so funny because I have a million things to do and I can't get started on anything. Maybe getting off the computer will help.....

I understand how you feel. My 3 yr old just started last week. She hugged me good-bye and everything. I cried but it wasn't as bad as when my son started. He was so excited he couldn't have cared less about me. I stood at the door to his classroom practically begging for a hug good-bye and finally he gave me the fastest hug I've ever had in my life and took off yelling "bye mom" over his shoulder. It broke my heart. So it was nice that my daughter wanted a hug good-bye even though she was just as ready to go play as he had been.

My 6 yr old was very clingy when he started school at 3 yrs. old. He cried sometimes and it broke my heart. I worried all day. He's very sensitive. My daughter, however....

Do you know that song "Miss Independent" by Kelly Clarkson? Well...that was written for my 3 yr old. She couldn't wait to get to school. She greeted all the arriving children....decided where she wanted to sit and never looked back at me. A quick BYE was all I got when I kissed the top of her head goodbye. I'm glad, though. Girls need to be strong! (I wish I was) I cried as soon as I was out of the door.

Mine are only 2 and I dread the day they start pre-school cuz they will all be gone, all three of them... icon_cry.gif

Bittersweet is right! I already had a taste of that this summer when I signed them up for a week-long summer camp. It was only from 9:30 AM to 12:0PM but that first morning was the hardest. I got them in okay but when I put their stuff in their litttle locker I could feel the tears coming on. After 10 mins they had warmed up to the situation and had run off in different directions...then the tears really started. Got to the van and bawled like a baby! icon_cry.gificon_cry.gificon_cry.gif My little girls are growing up...the first of the apron strings got cut that day...makes me teary thinking about it even now.

On the upside, I did enjoy a coffee in a MUG, at a TABLE, with a NEWSPAPER!icon_lol.gif And when I picked them up? I heard the biggest cry of "MOMMA!!!" ever along with the biggest hugs...and, of course, I cried again!

Hello Everyone! I'm new to this site and cake decorating, but I'm already addicted to both. I remember my children starting school was hard, but a couple of weeks ago my youngest entered high school and this after the oldest started high school last year. It was rough on me, but she is definitely a strong willed girl and at she has big brother there to watch out for her. She's a varsity cheerleader who wants to be a vet. I call her my cheerleading cowgirl. Thanks for listening and again I love this site.[/quote]

I guess I'm a bad mom because I don't have my son in preschool. I've been thinking about it for a long time but didn't know where to start looking. He turned 3 in June but I never followed through. Guess I'm hesitant to start paying $ for my son to go to school.

Our son went to preschool for 3 years and our daughter has just started her second year...although I don't really count their first years because they only went one day. We sent them to the preschool at our church because we knew everyone and we knew we wouldn't have to worry about what was going on at school. You hear so many bad things on the news... Anyway, we are thinking of moving to a new area so we will be changing churches and none of the new churches have preschools. I thought about waiting until she is at least finished with preschool before moving because we like her being at the church and because regular preschools that we called are so expensive. But I found a Catholic preschool in the new area that is the same cost as our church preschool. Last year it was $70/month for her to be there 1 day a week. This year it is $230/month for her to go 3 days a week. My neighbor down the street pays $350 a WEEK for her son to go to a non-church preschool for 5 days a week. I have definitely found the churches to be less expensive and you don't have to worry about what they are teaching your children.

I have my daughter in a private school that is also part of my church. Their grades are from Nursery - 8th grade but it is a little pricey. Mind you I live in NYC. My solace is that a block away is my son's school. He started their last year. Now he's in 1st grade. It is a public school (free!) and it is a small, very well-run school where everyone knows everyone. The neighborhood I live it is bursting at the seams with kids and this is the most sought-after school. People actually lie about their addresses to gets their kids in. I'm very lucky to be zoned for it.
There is nothing more important than our kid's education!

jjandascog.....Is that $230.00 a month for 3 whole days? Just curious. I am a preschool teacher for a Catholic Preschool and we charge $85. for the month, 3 day's a week for 2 hours a day.

I think I'm actually a better mother now that the kids are both in school. Ha ha. What I mean is that I surprised myself with how patient I was all afternoon. Usually, around 5 or 6pm....my nerves are shot. Especially after 2 months of having them both around 24, 7. We went on "vacation" for 3 weeks to Florida. I LOVE Florida...but for a mom it is never a vacation...it is merely a change of geography.

Anyway.....I am busy planning a cake for the Wilton contest....I think the deadline is the end of this month. Anyone else doing it?

Well, my 6 and 8 year old daughters started school and we got off to a rough start. I was okay with the oldest's new teacher, but when I saw who was my 1st graders teacher, I about popped my corked, turned to the Librarian who was manning the assignment board and asked for the complaint form available given to squeaky wheels.

Mind you, I have not dealt with this teacher with my children, but I have talked to parents whose children have had her. She's a yeller, she gets into the children's faces, and she demands absolute perfection on assignments making kids staying after school if they don't get things absolutely right. These are first graders, for gosh sakes! Anyway, I was the first parent complaint of the school year for the principal and he tried to tell me that he just couldn't guarantee that my daughter can be moved as there were no avaliable spots in other classrooms. Fine, if he can't guarantee moving my baby, then I can't guarantee that I will not go postal on the lady the first time she makes my baby cry because she yelled at her. The only good thing about this class is that my daughters two best friends from kindergarten are in her class.

I still get laughed at! When my DD started kindergarden, she rode the bus and the second day. I totally freaked out, bawling, screaming!! I made my hubby get in the truck and chase after the bus. I was so terrified she would get to school and not find her way to class! The bus got to school before he caught up with it and she was properly sitting at her desk coloring. He didn't say nothing to her and left. She would have probably thought her mom was nutso!!!

Debbi My SIL is going through the same thing with my nephew's teacher!!! I know that that can be very hard on your children as well as you as the parent. Good for you for standing up to her!!
