Does anyone have a suggestion for a from scratch yellow cake recipe? Every one that I have tried has turned out too dry. I want the perfect, moist, firm, yellow cake! help!

I've been working on one, adapting the wacky cocoa cake recipe (I'm allergic to eggs and dairy). It's moist, but you do need to add quite a bit of flavoring to it...

3 1/4 c flour
2 c sugar
2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
2 c water
2 TBSP vinegar
1 1/2 TBSP vanilla (last time I made this, I used 1/2 tsp Loranns princess flavoring and 1 TBSP vanilla, and it was just about perfect)
1/3 c oil
1/3 c sour cream

Add dry ingredients and whisk til blended. Add wet ingredients and mix just until blended (I've done both by hand and with a mixer--works either way). Put in pans (or cupcake liners) and bake. Cupcakes, I do 425 degrees for 7 minutes, and drop temp down to 350 for the remaining 10 to 13 minutes. It gives a nice dome. Cakes, I bake at 350 for 40 to 50 minutes.

If you want it to be chocolate, add 1/2 cup cocoa powder, and drop the flour to 3 cups.
