What I did for mine was find the picture of the electric guitar, print it off then use a photocopier to enlarge it to the size I wanted.

Because I wanted mine quite large I printed the original picture in 3 sections, body of the guitar and the neck in two pieces. I then enlarged each picture by the same amount and used each section as a template on each size of cake required.

Thank you for your advice, i will give that a try.
I just had a look at your photo & your cake is fantastic.
did you use real guitar strings or something else?

I used cotton thread which I tied around a toothpick at each end (make sure the string is pulled taut so it's straight). I then hid the toothpicks with fondant decoration. The cake was for my nephew so I was there to serve it. If it's an order make sure you advice which parts are non-edible

You can do it that way, or, Kinkos has a large blueprint copier. Depending on how big you want your guitar, you may be able to get a full image from that machine.

I am making an electric guitar too. I drew one on cardboard from a picture. I plan to lay it on the cake and cut it out. I can try to take a pic of it and send it to you. Maybe then you can print it out like the other reply to this blog suggested.

I happened to see tagboard cutouts for guitars at Michaels. About 2ft long, plain for kids to decorate. I immediately thought cake!! Would be easy to cut larger around it if you wanted a bigger cake.

I also just found a picture of the guitar I was making, or if it isn't a specific guitar you could just find one you like and print it out
