Busy week. 2, four tier wedding cakes, one groom's cake, 12 doz wedding cupcakes plus a 6" round cutting tier, plus 112 choc covered "chocolate sandwich cookies."
Wedding cake are mostly done, I'm in the middle of the cupcakes, and haven't started decorating the groom's cake, although it's base coated in bc. Oh, and I still have to bang out another 40 or so cookies.
I would like to have a cake to make but don't. I keep making them for may family but we are getting fatter by the week. I should post my pics, I have made a total of 5 cakes, the first one was great, second was pretty but did not taste as good as I planned. The rest I really took advantage of the recipes here and made some really yummy cakes. I "accidently" made a very yummy jamocha butter cream that was fantastic. Want to make a wedding cake for my college classmate who got married in Reno and not a lot of us could go, so I want to give her a reception here but am kinda scared. Any advice?
No cakes this week. I am going to be hammering on the new building tomorrow. The process is not going fast, but we continue to see progress every week.
Waiting to turn on my website-I don't want to turn down business and we are not close enough to set an opening date. I will know the value of my product that is for sure!
I'm not working on anything tonight, but tomorrow morning the baking frenzy begins. I'll be working on a zebra cake for my friend's daughter's 14th birthday, red velvet cupcakes for my son's birthday, and some un-named cookies for a thank you for a coworker. Went shopping tonight for all of the supplies.
So what is red velvet cake? Besides chocolate cake with a lot of food coloring? I have never had it.
I've got some petit fours just about ready to ice. Nothing near as busy as you, Leah, but then again I just bake for fun. I've never done poured fondant before, so wish me luck!
I finally found a Baby Cakes Cake Pop maker in stock at Kohl's today so I've been having fun with that tonight.

Nothing tonight. finished a sea turtle cake last night. Tomorrow night, I have a Coach purse cake to make. This is my first Coach purse. Anyone else made one? Is there a trick to the "C" pattern?
Peetz It would be very nice to give your friend a reception. Even cake and champagne would be lovely if budget is an issue.
I'm looking ahead to next week. One of the three weddings ordered 750 cake balls. (not a typo)
I'm working on a two tier bass drum cake for a graduation. The mallets are a bit problematic so I'm ignoring them until my genius idea gene kicks in. I hope I have that gene....
I'm not a pro, but can I play? I'm making 5 doz. cupcakes for a fundraiser tomorrow, and I just finished some cute wedding cake cookies for a shower tomorrow night.
Sangria, the only qualifications needed to join the FNCC are being awake on Friday night and having a desire to talk about cake.
I am taking it easy this week Everyone needs a break! Doesn't mean I am sittin on the beach sipping margaritas tho (well, maybe the margarita I have my father in law's cake to do this weekend for Sunday, just got it baked. I have to share the story with this one! Years ago, way back when...he was a mullet fisherman! Commercial. Knowing him and seeing him now, you would think I was a liar! Anyways, his nick name among the fishermen was Jukebox because he also ran a jukebox and games business before casinos were around and bars were the place to be at night! Now, he owns a TON of rental properties that he manages his self, and works a very high paying job here in town. I am giving him a walk down memory lane this year on his 45th birthday with a Mullet fish cake, wrapped in an edible mullet fishing net, saying "Happy Birthday Jukebox"! Its going to be very personal and mean a lot to him because he LOVED that time of his life and still misses "the simple times" I can't wait to post pictures!
Cool.
I've got a question about the snickerdoodle cupcakes I'm making--they're a little dry and I'd like to brush them with simple syrup, but can I flavor it with cinnamon?

RV cake is not a chocolate cake, its actually a buttermilk cake, with a HINT of cocoa powder! I would suggest trying a few different recipes because in my experience, they all taste different! My least favorite would be box RV cake (both duncan hines and betty crocker) but my absolute FAV recipe is Cake Man Raven's Red Velvet cake! Its sweet, but not real sweet, has plenty of flavor, and pairs well with cream cheese or white chocolate buttercream!http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/sara-moulton/southern-red-velvet-cake-recipe/index.html
I also use this recipe for "Pink Velvet" cake, using pink food coloring instead of red!

absolutely. a creme filling will also help.
OK cupcakes are done Tackling the cookies now, as soon as I clean the counter.
Leah, do you do this in a home bakery, or do you have a store front? I have been wondering for some time now since you are always so busy!
ConfectionsCC- here's how little I know about fish. I'm picturing a fish with a mullet wig. Business in the front, party in the back. LMBO
Currently waiting on Mr. Torte to wake up from his slumber on the loveseat and torte the 2 cakes as I asked him to several hours ago. I also reminded him twice. I'd like to be snoozing, too, but I have to get these cakes settling tonight. When oh when is this man going to give in and go Agbay?
Yes, this is the type of drama I have in my life. lol
Leah - I hope you post a pic of the 750 cake balls! I would love to see that!Wow.
I'm working out my design for the hippo ballerina cake for a 6 year old bday party mid June. I think it will be ok. Then I just got an email from a charity I work with asking how many cookies I could bake for their summer camps. I'm still deciding how to answer that. Then a simple retirement cake for a friend next weekend.

Okay, I got the recipe, going to see what all the fuss is about this weekend. I bet it's gooooood!

Creme filling--of course <slaps forehead> Thanks!
I have had my busiest week ever since starting my home business in January. I had 3 birthdays, one graduation and one "divorce anniversary". I made my first topsy turvy tonight which was really stressful. 14 hours in the kitchen today!
No cakes for me tonight, either. I've been out of town so much this year that I haven't been able to do many cakes lately, and my hands are itching to get into some fondant and DO SOMETHING! Just to keep from losing my mind, I've been trolling the internet and/or drawing some designs to try out once I get back. I have a whole list of things that I've seen here that I'd like to try out. But I'm here in Mexico City packing up all my worldly goods to make the final move to Cancún (I moved there last year when I retired, but am just selling my place in Mexico City - I HATE moving!). But it's great reading about what everybody else is doing!
Happy Friday Night!
Big day today...I've always been a hobbyist but had inspection today and I'm now 100% licensed and insured!
It feels GREAT to be "legal" and to have those hurdles over with!
Hey! This is my first time to post in the FNCC since I got my new job!!!! It's in a small town bakery shop that does breads, pastries, cookies and of course cake! I'm not doing wedding cakes yet, but I'm doing orders and case cakes. I did get to make one 2 tiered bridal shower cake and a wedding topper cake too. This bakery offers a free topper cake to couples on their one year anniversary (as long as they got their wedding cake from us that is). Lots of red white and blue this weekend!
Although I'm pretty proud of myself. I got all the orders for tomorrow done already and the case was full so my boss told me I could have tomorrow off. Looks like a 3 day weekend for me! It's just the calm before the storm. . .
