Ha ha, they wouldn't ask me then. I pissed them off royally when they posted an announcement trying to get brides to cancel on the bakers they already contracted with, so they could get their DREAM cake made. That was so fun.

If ever I wish I still had a screenshot, it was now. I might on a different computer, and if I do, I'll post it. Whoever is in charge of posting announcements and what not on the Next Great Baker facebook page put up a HORRID announcement. I remember it said something like "Brides! Do you hate the cake you've ordered for your wedding?" It was an invite for brides to compete for their dream cake from one of the bakers on the show, something like that. (Again, I am going to track down the screenshot, cause it was priceless) So I went on and asked if they were honestly inviting brides to ditch the contracts they had with their bakers, leaving someone high and dry in the middle of wedding season. Really, wish I remember it word for word. It was awesome though. They squirmed for a bit (again, the screenshot, the screenshot, gotta find it) eventually worded it differently, and then took the whole thing down I think. It was so horridly offensive "DO YOU HATE THE CAKE YOU'VE ORDERED?" Ugh.

It's obvious they haven't "edited" any of the audition submissions. I doubt they'll upload any private submission unless/until you are chosen as a contestant, and then they'll use only snippets of the audition on their site. I believe the only reason they request the You Tube passcode is so they can take it down when it's over.

I was told it was so they could download to edit them...that's just what I was told.

So, all of those that are on youtube now were edited by the owner? I was told NOT to do any type of editing by two different producers.

That it would be too stressful. Good luck to all of you auditioning!

Unprofessional, raw footage. (some added text inserts.)

Perhaps they were referring to the 5-minute challengenot to stop the camera (uncut required).

I guess it depends on what is considered "editing". Is there something fancy that you wanted to do, but refrained from? (uncut continual filming not required).

I think it's Amazing Wedding Cakes. It's the one the Cake Girls were on, and Christopher Garren is still on it. I think it's on Sunday nights on TLC or WEtv.

I posted mine as private so I could see if/ when they viewed it. Has anyone been contacted about being in the final that are going to NYC? The last thing I heard a few weeks back was that it was going to TLC for approval- and nothing since. Just wondering when I can stop biting my nails.....whichever way. Hate to sit here wondering if they have already picked! Good luck to all of my CC peeps! icon_biggrin.gif

Highnoon Productions pitches a few to the network each week. The next step is to wait and see if you're invited to meet with the producer in mid-July.

I briefly read over the fine print but I didn't see anything about getting 50 grand in lieu of working for Buddy. Where is that information located?

I DO NOT want to work for Buddy. He and I would have some issues with the constant yelling and over acting. I would love to try to compete. I don't want to move from Texas either. My husband has a good job here and I like it here.

I don't know if I have the stamina to compete.

I guess I could use a LOT of encouragement to try. Any help out there? icon_smile.gif

It isn't in lieu ofit's the cash prize to the winner. The information is on TLC's website:
http://tlc.discovery.com/tv/tv-shows.html
http://tlc.discovery.com/tv/next-great-baker/about-next-great-baker.html
and if you watched season 1, the winner also received a Chevy Cruze (along with the $50k cash prize, and the temporary "job" to work side-by-side with Buddy).

I put on my application late friday night, hopefully im not too late and i hear back from them! I'm about to graduate with my B.S. in engineering and seeing as how no one on my class is finding jobs right now i think this would be the perfect opportunity for me icon_biggrin.gif i love Texas, but I'd take the job with Buddy if i won- experience is experience, and all the more better if its under the direction of a famous baker!

I love that show! BUT, seriously, I watched that episode with the girls at White Flower Cake Shoppe in Beachwood, Ohio making their black fondant wedding cake IN THE DARK, and thought either I've been doing it wrong all this time, or maybe they need my recipe so they can turn the lights back on. REALLY? Course they are the same ones (on another episode) that were making "sugar diamonds" molded out of isomalt and apparently had to do it several times, set off the smoke alarm, and COMPLAINED about having to spend "like a whole hour trying to get this right" before they finally figured it out. Wow! Personally, I don't think "a whole hour" is too long to spend perfecting a technique that YOU SUGGESTED to the bride! I think they should go on the Next Great Baker - they could give Buddy a run for his money in over-the-top drama!

Are you just trying to scout out your possible competition by posting these? Most of them probably aren't see anyway, as the instructions state to post them privately. But not everyone follows directions well.

Hmm. I thought it did, but I haven't looked at it in awhile. Maybe it was just a thought to make sure the whole world isn't checking you out. I guess there's no requirement to make it public! LOL

Noto scout out possible competition, they'd need to be watched

Posting them would help others to scout out their competitionit's for your entertainment, should you choose to watch them.

From a casting producer:
"Thanks so much for your interest in our show. Your application was great! I LOVE your story and your cakes.

We have just started up casting for the second season and are looking for people with big personalities and even bigger decorating skills! I would love for you to take the next step, which is to make a home video, so that we get a chance to meet you (on camera) and see your talent and personality. The most important thing to remember is to answer the questions with a lot of energy, animation and enthusiasm. (Basically just be yourself!) Your answers in your application were great so feel free to say similar but more elaborate answers on camera!

We pitch a few candidates to the network every week, so please get the tape to us ASAP (48 TO 72 hrs max)! This video is what we send to the network, so have fun with it!! The instructions, questions and uploading info are attached. Once it's up, please just shoot me an email to let me know.

Do me a favor and look this over before you start making the video...in case you have questions.

We are super excited to watch it, so have lots of fun!

Tip for the video: Have fun, be creative and do something that makes you STANDOUT! NOW GO MAKE A GREAT VIDEO!! Make sure your video will grab TLC's Attention!!! You can see some of Season 1 home videos on TLC's website (we expect better ones for SEASON 2)! Make sure to show us some of your talents, interests, or anything that makes you unique in your video!!!!

Thanks and please don't hesitate to ask me any questions."

The attachment: (minus all 27 questions... some are specific to the applicant.)

"The next step in the process is for you to make a video, so that we get a chance to meet you. The most important thing to remember is to answer the questions with a lot of energy, animation and enthusiasm. (Basically just be yourself!) We are super excited to watch it, so have lots of fun!

HOW TO SEND/UPLOAD VIDEO:

YOUTUBE VIDEO UPLOADING INSTRUCTIONS: (The ONLY Option please)
Please log onto youtube.com and create an account. Make sure you send us an email with your username and password, so we can view & download the uploaded video.

Once you create an account, go to the upper right hand corner and click on the UPLOAD icon. You can ONLY upload 10 minutes at a time. If you need to upload several videos, that is absolutely fine. Just remember, when filming dont film over 10 minutes at one time or YouTube wont accept the video. If the video is about to go over 10 minutes, stop recording, save and start another video/segment.

ON CAMERA AUDITION TAPE

STEP 1 READ THE TIPS ON FILMING- They are VERY IMPORTANT!

DISTANCE: Try not to be more than 5 feet away from the camera as the sound will be too faint. We want a close shot of you. We dont want to see a lot of the room or extra space.
LIGHTING: Make sure there is a lot of light in the room. Dont stand in front of window, that creates a shadow and we wont see you.
NOISE & CAMERA: Make sure you do a test before filming the whole interview. Sit down, talk for a couple seconds and play it back to make sure we can HEAR you clearly and we can SEE you clearly.

Before you answer the questions. Do a little show and tell to pump up your energy and show us your BEST designs (if youre an artist and havent worked with many cakes, then show us some of your work that would be similar in skill level)!

1. Show us your work space and how you perform under tight time constraints! Start with any kind of blank cake or canvas you desire. Start your watch and WOW us with something you can create/decorate in 5 minutes TOTAL. DO NOT STOP THE CAMERA!

2. Show us real displays of your work (finished products you've either done recently or have as display items). Make sure to have fun and talk us through the process of how you made them and how long it took. Don't forget to let your PERSONALITY shine! THIS SHOULD BE NO MORE THEN 5 MINUTES TOTAL!

3. Show us something competitive like competing with friends or anything else you do to be active and competitive. Be creative! THIS SHOULD BE VERY QUICK!

4. Show us something that really showcases your personality (i.e. an interesting hobby, talent. GRAB OUR ATTENTION!

INTERVIEW QUESTIONS (Its helpful to have someone with good energy ask you the questions)! Answer the questions in 3 sentences or less but no one-word answers!

1.  Introduce yourself. Name, age, ethnicity and occupation."

(Not entirely true about YouTube not accepting anything over 10 minutesif you've ever watched any uploads, there are plenty of them out there that exceed 10 minutes.)

End of attachment:

"ONCE YOU UPLOAD THE VIDEO, DONT FORGET TO SEND ME AN EMAIL WITH YOUR YOUTUBE ACCOUNT INFO.

NOTE: (ALL FINALISTS MUST BE AVAILABLE TO TRAVEL TO NYC IN LATE JULY, IF SELECTED TO MEET WITH THE PRODUCERS IN THE FINAL ROUND OF AUDITIONS. TAPING FOR THE SHOW WILL START MID-AUGUST TILL LATE SEPTEMBER)."

(This is what I received. Public or private is your choice... I'm sure they'll view whichever you choose as long as you provide the account info requested.)

I think I read on youtube 15 minutes but when I first attempted a 12 minute video, it cut off that part that was beyond 10 minutes. I do believe there are certain accounts (paid maybe?) that can upload longer videos and larger files.

Why in the world were there people on there doing such beginner weird cakes!?? Hopefully you guys make it on and then bump it up this season!! icon_smile.gif Good luck!!!
