Hello fellow cake enthusiasts! I'm hoping someone can help me out- I've tried multiple times to make gumpaste tulips to no avail. I've looked at many tutorials and haven't had any luck. I can't seem to get the 'cup-y' shape...like are all the petals on wires? What do you dry them on to achieve the shape? Any help would be greatly appreciated!! icon_smile.gif

Icer101, thank you. That was a very detailed site. Do you know where she got the oval cutter? Second of all she said when making the pistin that you divide it into 2, but I am not quite sure what she means unless it is to make the head of the pistin triangular in shape? something that looks 3 sided? I only saw 2. but other than that it was very clear.

There's a fantastic tulip tutorial by James Rosselle on CakeFu webinar, along with tutorials by other cake artists.

Sabre, would you mind telling me how to find the "cake fu webinar" with James roselles' tulip tutorial?

I would very much like to see it, but I must not be typing in the correct info.

Thanks so much!

Jules5000, Sharon shows a triangle shape , she uses her fingers. I use a pair of tweezers as i was taught. Tulip petal cutters are on most cake suppliers sites. Global Sugar Art will have them. If you look at the cutters much, you can also just freehand cut them . I have done this in other flowers also. Hope i have explained it ok. You can use single petal cutters or sometimes there is a 3 petal all in one and you cut this twice and go from there.

There was a good tutorial sent to me by yummy arts. They used a marshmallow as the center. It was super easy, and cute. You could google and see if it comes up

Just wait until you try and work with that pistel with the little "thingies" around the bottom (Sharon's tutorial). I have made over 3 dozen tulips (I am serious) and I still don't have one that I like. I have tried several different centers and they all look ugly.

Has anyone been able to find the tulip tutorial from the Cake Fu site? I would love to see it.

Sharon's method is the same as Jennifer Dontz's and I even took a class from Jen where we made the tulips and I still can't make the centers! I wish I knew what I am doing wrong.

The CakeFu webinars occur about every 2 weeks... after each one they send out a link to where you can access the replays... The James Roselle tulip tutorial was really good, I can't wait to try it myself!

*I just went back through my emails and realized that the link for each webinar is in a separate email... if you email them though, they should be able to send you the link you need icon_smile.gif

Sorry! Here is the registration website. Once you register they send you emails to let you know who the next guest instructor will be and then follow up emails with the replay. If you register, you can then email them and ask for links to past replays icon_smile.gif

Can you possibly tell me the email address to send the request to?

Thank you again so very much, I cannot wait to see the tutorial by James Roselle

Oh, they had said lots of people were asking for the replays... I would try sending an email to [email protected] that's the address their emails originate from.

Sorry, everyone. Business took me away from my computer for a while. Anyway, the tulip tutorial by James Rosselle is at Cakefu.com. They play repeat episodes of various artists when you register with them, like Sharon Zambito, Rebecca Sutterby, Kaysie Lackey, etc. Too little, to late on my part, I guess.

AMy problem is dusting the petals. I just sit in front of all these pictures and tons of different dusts and freeze. Does anyone know of any tutorials that help you with coloring? Thanks so much.

AAre you talking about the parrot tulip or the classic? If you want to do the parrot tulip dry the petals placed over the back of an egg shape mold usually used to make Easter eggs a bit bigger than your petal. Or you can try form that shape from extra thickness aluminium foil. James Roselle on craftsy does a great tutorial and for the French tulip look at Nicholas Lodges tutorial.
