I need to make a Disney "Tangled" (Rapunzel) themed cake and that includes the tower. Would it be best to make it out of RKT? I'm estimating it to be about 10 to 12 inces high. It's going to be top heavy, so I'm not sure how RKT will work. I've never used them before and I could use some suggestions. I plan on buying the treats since I hear they seem to work best. The tower will be in the middle of a sheet cake.
Thanks for any suggestions!
I have made 2 Tangled cakes so far and I made the towers from RKT and a ice cream cone but don't make it as high or it will topple over even with a dowel in it...Mine were only about 8 inches high..It still looked good.I think it is in my photos...
hi, dont know what a tangled cake is, but i made a rapunzel tower cake http://cakecentral.com/gallery/1985161. could have done with been a bit taller though.
Michellew..Tangled refers to the Disney Movie that was released a few months ago which features Rapunzel.
I thought this one was pretty spectacular, and there's a brief description of how it's built in the caption:

I did one for my granddaughter two weeks ago and used PVC pipe. I screwed an end piece into the cake board, then stuck in the pipe. With a little piping gel, fondant stuck to it just fine. The top of my tower was not edible; I used styrofoam covered with fondant. Lots of fun to make, and my granddaughter loved it. The tower was surrounded by a 3 layer 1/2 sheet cake with cake hills. That's what we ate. Here's a link:

Thank you Poohsmamma, your cake came out great. I was not sure how to make fondant to plastic. I will give piping gel a try. I'll be making the top of the tower out of RKT, so it's not too heavy.
When I did mine my husband cut a 2 in dowel attached that to a board and we put a plumbing fixture on the top of that to give the top of the tower something to rest on. Not sure what the fixture was called but its where you can attach a smaller and larger pipe together if that makes sense. Here is the link to mine.

I finally have time to post the photo of the Tangled Tower I made. Thanks to all who offered suggestions.
