I'm wondering what's the best way to make guitar strings on a fondant covered guitar. Last time I piped thin lines and that worked ok but wondering if anyone has a better idea. I just practiced painting some lines on a paper towel but not sure if that is going to work.
I use metallic embroidery thread for mine. Check my pictures. Also, real guitar strings would be fairly hard to pull taut and get straight. But they would look great if you got it to work!
I did a fondant guitar on a buttercream iced cake also (see in my pix). I piped black buttercream but it was difficult. Of course after doing the cake - I was walking down an isle at the grocery store and candy was on one side - I saw string black liquorish (?spelling) and I thought - oh man - that would have been perfect for guitar strings! Just a thought......
I used fondant extruder or clay gun for the strings on the violin I made (check out my Violin and Violet cake). It should also work for guitar strings.

I did BC on a butter cream and needless to say you really have to have a steady hand and unfortunitly I didn't
I used spaghetti and dry-dusted with silver lustre dust.

I used the straight metal wire from the floral department in Michaels. Instead of making them flat I arched them from the top of the gutar to around the bottom it made the cake really cute but it was a little girls cake that had a lot of other busy stuff on it.
