Can Buttercream Be Quilted?
Decorating By sacakesandbakes Updated 12 May 2011 , 7:06pm by TexasSugar
I was wondering if a buttercream cake can have the same quilt look of a fondant cake?
If so how would this be accomplished?
Thanks for any input.

This was a (crusting) buttercream cake. And I used an impression mat for it.
Check out these beauties. Wish they were mine!

TexasSugar, where did you buy your impression mat? what brand is it? I've been looking for one. Thanks!
I bought mine at an ICES convention. I'm guessing it is this one...

There are several listed on their site...

Another thought, if you can pipe straight lines...

In this post I described a way to get a design on the cake. This would work for the quilting too. You'd just have to pipe very clean straight lines to have a pretty finished looking.
There are probably some past posts on this site that talk about using other things as well. I could see using a ruler to make the lines as well.
