I don't own a cake pan. (Obviously a newbie). I want to buy round cake pans to start and read here that Magic Line is a good brand. I researchd and found that they are 14 gage aluminum.

There is a restaurant supply in Denver that has a sale once a year and everything in the store is 1/2 price. The sale is this coming weekend. They have heavy weight 14 Ga, 1.5 mm Aluminum, 3" Deep cake pans in every size. I wonder if they would be comparable to Magic Line since the gage is the same. Is 3" the correct depth to buy?

I would think that it would be the same, but I'm not positive. But I do know Magic Line is wonderful. I made a cake for mothers day and used three pans. One was Wilton and two were Magic Line and the difference was crazy. The Magic Line one was perfect! The Wilton one was a little brown on the edges. Hopefully someone can answer you actual question better than my rambling LOL (=

Do you know what brand these pans are? And do they have straight sides?

I will see if I can see a brand name this week when I go to the sale. They are straight edged though. Here is a picture:

I love my Fat Daddio's and for the price of them, I don't think you can go wrong. They are similar to the photo you are showing with one difference.
Fat Daddio's have a matted finish inside the cake pan, not shiny like your photo.
Fat Daddio's : 14 gauge Hard 3003 Aluminum; Hard Anodized for Durability

It's a shame you couldn't purchase one pan, at your sale, try it see if you like it, then go back and purchase the set you need!

Good Luck!

*I've tried Wilton Pans, but I'm a real fan of the Fat Daddios.

I'm curious about this too. I want to buy some more pans in different shapes and can't decide between the Magic Line, and Fat Daddio

Love my Fat Daddio but I haven't used Magic Line. If the pans are 14 gauge and have nice straight sides, I'd say go for it.

They are better than what you have now, right? icon_wink.gif

The cake pans I found at the half price sale are Amco brand. Straight edged with a lip. Compared to Wilton, they are much heavier. They looked good so I bought 2 each of the round 6", 8", 10", 12". I hope I like them. I also bought all of the sizes of the Bake Even Strips for half off. And 4 different sizes of metal bench scrapers. They were only $1-$2, even the biggest one. All have oak type wood grips. Happy Birthday to me!

Fat Daddio's all the way! Love those pans. I think they are reasonably priced too.
