for those of you who are asking how i made the prom cake pops, here's what i did...

http://cakecentral.com/gallery/2027490

for the tuxedo pops, i used black fondant with a little tylose powder to cut small rectangles, which i pinched together in the center. then i used the small wilton oval cutter to make a knot impression where i just pinched the fondant together. i allowed it to dry for a few days then i dusted them (lightly) with yellow (yes, yellowicon_smile.gif) luster dust to give them a bit of a shine.

for the flower pops, i used pink and orange fondant with a little tylose powder, which i rolled out and used a multi-flower veining mat (with the bulge in the middle) to make the flower impression. then i used a small flower cutter to cut the flower out. then i used the small ball tool to thin the edges of the petals. next, i painted egg white around the edges of the petals and dusted them with pink and orange disco dust for a sparkly shine. lastly, i used perfect pearls gems to make the centers of the flowers. the leaves were a light lime green fondant that i used the leaf veining mat and small wilton leaf cutter to create.

when all that was dry enough, i made the cake balls and dipped them in melted white choc discs. the flower cake pops dried while i re-dipped the tux pops in black choc (white choc made black) by tilting them side-ways to make the black "jacket" and the triangle "shirt." while they dried, i used a toothpick to put the stripes on the flower pops, using the same black choc... just dipping a drizzling.

next, i put all of the decorations on the pops by using melted choc (as the glue) and a toothpick. the "buttons" on the tux pops were perfect pearl gems too.

did i leave anything out? let me know if i did... i hope this is helpfulicon_smile.gif!

i meant to tell you that it took me bout 1 & 1/2 hours to make the decor... about 30 minutes to roll the cake balls... and about an hour or 2 to dip, decorate and storeicon_smile.gif. i used cake "leftovers" for the pops.

i love it when people post the amount of time it takes to complete projects... that's always helpful in pricingicon_smile.gif.

Oh my gosh! Those are so cute!

Is this for the whole prom or a pre/post party?

We just had M&Ms at our prom.....15+....years...ago...eek! LOL!!

Thanks for the tutorial and giving a time frame is very helpful. I also like when people give that info.

How did you color the white candy melts black? Beautiful job. Thanks for sharing.

Absolutely gorgeous! How did you get your pops to be so perfectly round? And you dipped them so cleanly! What's your technique? icon_biggrin.gif

thank you very much!

i rolled the balls as round and as smooth as i could get them and stuck them with the lollipop sticks (the tips having been dipped in a little choc).... then i stuck them in the refrigerator for about 15 min. while they were firming up, i melted the chocolate and let it sit until i was ready to dip. when i took the cake pops out, if they needed it, i reshaped the pops as i dipped each one to ensure there was no flat bottom or any bumps.

when i dipped them, i dipped at an angle and swirled them in a circular motion to cover the whole pop in one go. them i tapped, gently, and turned the pops until i was satisfied with the coverage, making sure there were no bulging bumps of choc.

is that helpful? this was my first time making cake pops, so if i come up with more tips that make it any better or easier, i'll let you knowicon_smile.gif!!!
