I've been asked to make a 3D Minnie Mouse cake for a one year old's birthday. The mother criticized another decorator in conversation with me. I fear what she may say about me if I don't meet her standards. I haven't done much with carving or sculpting. Feeling inadequate for this cake. Can anyone help with any "how to's" or should I just tell her I can't do it?!
Hey!
Hrmmm.. here's my take:
I would use the Wilton Ball pan for the body and just carve the top a little to look more of a tear drop shape.
For the head I would use either rice krispie treats molded into a ball or the smaller wilton ball pan.
Connect the head to the body with a dowel.
Use fondant for the arms and legs - make ahead of time and dried to shape body
For the minnie mouse hat - mold ontop of rice krispie treat or small ball to fit head.. the ears should be made in advance with dowels or strong toothpicks at the end to stick in the hat
Good Luck!
I've made a minnie moues & mickey mouse cake - but just the hats in 3d ontop of a 8" cake
If you're nervous try doing that instead, if the customer is ok with that
First of all ask yourself, how did she find out about you? Did someone recommend you? I would take the suggestions on how to do the cake from that lady that told you how to do it and do the best you can, then deliver the cake and get the money. You put your time and ingredients in to it and your gas delivering it. YOu get paid whether she likes it or not. There are lots of mickey and minnie cakes on here, I would look through some of the pictures and if you see one that you really like go with that on looks or description if the person gave one. It depends on how soon you need it you could even write the person a message and ask questions about it. Most people on here are very helpful. If you have a specific color scheme all you have to do is put that in place of the cake colors they used. Maybe this lady isn't really as picky as she might seem. She might have really got ahold of someone that was not any good at all. Did she give you any hints about what this other person did that she did not like? Good luck and try not to be nervous. WOuld love to hear how it went and see pictures.
