Wondering if those of you that have cookies, cupcakes, coffee ready for sale offer a free goody or discount the purchase if an officer, fireman or anyone in uniform comes in your shop.

I think its a wonderful gesture but didn't know if it ever got out of hand...

Thanks.

Most of the local restaurants here offer all emergency personel either free or discounted food and drink. I plan on doing the same thing when I have my remodeling finished and am open daily.

I discount 10% off the bill, and offer free cup of coffee for anyone in any uniform.

Yup, sure does. When I had a shop, I gave all cops a discount. I tried to give Sgt. Fix a discount, too, but the creep told me it was unethical for him to accept anything.

The following year we got married. Out of hand? Yup.

I don't own a bakery but I worked in fast food when I was a teen. We gave the officers free coffee and 15% off their bill when they came in, and they always did. It was fun to see them for lunch some days and then again with their families for dinner at night (they paid full price then btw).

I worked in a lot of fast food restaurants when I was younger and we always gave cops free coffee and a 10% discount. Not only is it nice, it encourages police (and Military) to come in often, which discourages would-be thieves or robbers.

I don't own a store front, but I do give a discount to police, fire, military and teachers on all my cakes. My hubby and I are both law enforcement officers.

The ironic part is that I always feel weird when someone gives me a discount because of my day job. I have sat and argued with the 7-11 clerk that I want to pay for my hot chocolate. I only stopped because one clerk told me, "Ma'am. That man back there is my boss. If you pay for this, he will fire me. Please take it and leave."

We do appreciate the discounts. It's nice to feel appreciated when you do such a thankless job.
