Does anyone know if I can turn my go to chocolate cake recipe into a root beer cupcake by adding rootbeer extract and root beer soda?

Mmmm... root beer cake sounds yummy! If I were to try it I would probably try it with a white or yellow cake though, the chocolate might over power the root beer flavor you are trying to achieve... That's just my non-professional hypothesis, lol!

Yeah, I would start with a white cake. The gourmet flavors thread has an awesome root beer cake recipe from MacsMom.

I made a root beer float cake last summer and basically made a white cake and replaced all the liquid with boiled-down root beer. It wasn't root beery enough. Lorann makes a root beer extract; I would try that (and add actual root beer if you still want) instead. I agree that the chocolate flavor will probably overpower the root beer flavor.
