I made a cake similiar to one on CC that has a cupcake on the bottom and a present on the top. I had it almost done and I realized the cupcake was buckling near the base. I tried to fix it by adding more dowels through the bottom to support the weight of the present tier but it only made it worse. The cupcake part of the cake split right down the middle to the very bottom of the cake board. I have never had that happen!! Luckily it was for family and I gave her the present and the upside down cupcakeicon_smile.gif

Are there any tricks to the angled cake to support it?

You can a topsy turvy that has just an illusion that the cake is tilting. This is a very good tutorial.
