In WA state it is almost legal to have a home business (SB5748 is awaiting signature from the Governor). What I want to know from all those whom have an inspected home business is where do you store all your bulk supplies (cake boards/boxes/equipment). My kitchen is not large enough to house it all, I am considering putting in cabinets in my garage to hold all these type of items...Just curious how you have yours set-up.

(The bill states I can store business items anywhere within my house/garage, they do not need to all be in the kitchen...just wanted to clarify)

I'm in Canada but I'm sure they will be similar standards. I went to Home Depot and got the coated metal shelves. They bottom shelf has to be a min. of 6' off the floor. All items (sugar, flour etc.) needs to be in a food safe storage bin and marked with the date and contents.

These are a few of the things that the health dept. went over with me.

I have a home office that's used for strorage. Shelves on all walls and all the boxes and boards go in there. I'd thought of using the garage for some, but I don't like the idea of bugs getting all over the boxes, yuck.

I recommend using a place like California Closets that specializes in custom-built shelving and storage. We had CA Closets build a custom desk, cabinets, and shelves for our home office, it really maximizes the available space.

I have a small kitchen but I use a high stainless steel table for extra counterspace and storage and I also bought one of those large wire shelves. It holds quite a bit and I can adjust the shelves to whatever height I need them. I store my pans upright in boxes that I use as drawers.

Unless your items are in sealed containers, bugs will get into them in the garage. If you have high humidity in your area of WA you will also need to make sure you don't have a mold issue.
