Is it better to use a square or a circle pan? This is my first purse cake, so any advice will be much appreciated. Also any tips on how to make the gold chains?

Many thanks.

Okay, i have been doing some more research, i saw a website where the person used a 2 10" square pan but i guess that will be too much for 15 people. I am thinking of using 2 8" squares, cut it into 5 and 3" and stack and trim abit.

Has anyone done it this way, will the top be too thin? Pls help. I am trying to avoid doing a trial run if its not necessary.

it may sound strange but do you have a loaf pan? I would personally make 2 loaves of cake (haha) and trim down the top one.....just a thought...could be wrong..good luck!!

I actually do have the loaf pan, thanks for that, I didnt even think of using it. Will it not look too thin though? I will go over the dimensions for the loaf pan when i get home.

Many thanks

It may but to feed 15 people is hard. You can alway use the cake you trim off the top and make cake paste (cake and icing mixed together) to fill in the thinness.....Let me know how it works- or if you even use them--kinda curious myself now! LOL

That im not sure on---

I found this on a website: Loaf
Aprox. Dimension: 8 x 4 x 2 1/2 in. Yields: 4 cups
Aprox. Dimension: 8 1/2x4 1/2x2 1/2 Yields: 6 cups
Aprox. Dimension: 9 x 5 x 3 inches Yields: 8 cups

Wilton says a Party Cake size is 1 1/2 x 2 in. Slices

and a 6' round 2 layer cake yields 12 servings

Ok...this may be way off, but why not use round pans? Maybe make a very tall 10" round cake, cut in half and turn them on their sides since they will have that naturally half moon shape? Image
